The exhibition will come to life with a professionally produced multi-media, performance showcase entitled Kansas City & All That’s
Jazz: Bringing Legends to Life. Produced by Midnight Blue Jazz, the concert will feature celebrated Kansas City bands the Midnight
Blue Jazz Quintet, and Kansas City’s Vine Street Rumble Jazz Orchestra. This highly interactive performance will include narration
supported by multi-media images and historic video clips, along with newly arranged compositions and transcription performances of
songs representing the artists highlighted in the Kansas City Jazz Legacy exhibition – thus Bringing Legends to Life. The
performance will take the audience on a unique Kansas City jazz journey highlighting the music’s fantastic narrative and evolution
through time beginning with the jazz age through modern-day. The show will also feature an all-star jazz band made up of students
from Liberty North and Liberty high schools plus a portion of selected proceeds will be donated to these fantastic programs. The
evening will be hosted by award-winning KMBC9 Chief Meteorologist, Bryan Busby.
The showcase concert will take place in the Liberty Performing Arts Theater on Friday, August 23rd and will be one of the signature
events within the city-wide Spotlight: Charlie Parker events sponsored by Kansas City Jazz ALIVE (kcjazzalive.org).
“We are so honored and grateful to be named the 2019 recipient of the Annual Arts Grant provided by the City of Liberty Arts
Commission. More importantly, we look forward to working closely with city officials, generous supporters, and our artists to deliver
what promises to be an exceptional and memorable event for residents and visitors to Liberty,” notes Midnight Blue Jazz CEO Greg
Carroll.
Presented by Midnight Blue Jazz, this project is supported in part by the Liberty Arts Commission, Liberty Transient Guest Tax,
Kansas City Jazz ALIVE, Liberty Arts Foundation, and the Liberty Performing Arts Theatre (visitlibertymo.com).
