Why Should Your Business Consider Recycling?

1. Today’s consumers are increasingly demanding green and sustainable products and businesses before spending their money. Show them with your logo on a can, that you are a business that cares. Ecotourists, of which we have many, tend to value recycling, and businesses that do tend to have higher disposable income than other groups.
2. Recycling saves taxpayer dollars by reducing the need for expensive-lined landfill areas. Landfills only last so long and cost money to operate and maintain after closing. Extend the life of our KPB landfill, reduce the volume of waste, and lower our transportation costs.
3. For larger businesses, organizations, and governments, recycling can save money on janitorial fees.
4. Plastic recycling waste will be stockpiled by PKS Consulting, which is developing a mobile plastic ocean waste recycling system designed to convert plastic waste into recycled plastic lumber. How cool is that!
5. Recycling programs cause employees to be more aware of what trash they’re generating and how they’re disposing of it, promoting more awareness about protecting the environment.

9. According to the EPA, about 63% of what is in our landfills could be recycled (food, paper and cardboard, rubber, leather, textiles, and plastic). If your business is generating those things, you are being proactive and responsible by recycling.
10. Recycling paper uses 65% less energy than creating new paper. This reduces energy consumption and greenhouse gas emissions. When we recycle 1 ton of paper, we save 17 trees that help reduce global warming because they breathe in carbon dioxide (a major greenhouse gas), while producing oxygen for us to breathe.

Time and Costs of Recycling?

• Recycling cans need to be emptied and sorted and materials recycled. You or your employees can do it yourself. Those who have a can on Fourth Ave find that takes about 30 minutes to an hour, once per week.  Depending upon your location, we can advise where the closest location is for you to take your recyclables.
• You can hire a local recycling company to pick it up. Resurrection Recycling offers residential pick-up on the 1st, 3rd, & 5th Tuesdays of the month ($45/month +tax), and business pick-up every Thursday ($125/month), both in and out of town.
• In the future, we hope to collaborate with the City of Seward to cover the cost of emptying the recycling cans on the public sidewalks. They are already setting a great example by paying for the emptying of the recycling containers along the bike path.
