SJESV Project: Read Through Rotary

The mission: Empowering communities to connect, share, and grow through accessible, volunteer-driven Neighborhood Reading Nooks

Read Through Rotary: A Neighborhood Literacy Initiative

Three years ago, our club launched Read Through Rotary, a grassroots effort to bring free books directly to families through cheerful, volunteer-driven Neighborhood Reading Nooks. Each installation is registered with a national registry maintained by the Little Free Library organization; the app is free and available on Apple Store and Google Play

With 28 libraries across Milpitas and San Jose, these colorful boxes have become neighborhood fixtures—offering stories that spark imagination and build connection. Each nook is stewarded by a local resident who keeps it stocked, tidy, and welcoming.

But like any good story, change is part of the journey. One of our stewards recently moved, and that means one of our beloved libraries is temporarily off the sidewalk… and looking for a new place to call home. We’re now seeking a fresh location—somewhere with foot traffic, community spirit, and a little patch of sidewalk ready to host a box full of books and possibility.

Know a spot that fits the bill? We’d love to hear from you.
