About Our Club
The Mountain View Rotary Club began as the result of a visit to the San Jose Rotary Club by Walter Doust.
Mr. Doust was a partner in the Mountain View Hardware Company. He became intrigued by the idea of an organization with a purpose larger than that of the typical business luncheon club. Sparked by the idea of businessmen jointly adopting a concept of "Service Above Self" for the good of the community. Walter Doust returned to Mountain View to impart his enthusiasm to banker Steb Teal. Thus, the idea of a Mountain View Rotary Club was launched. Within a short time, this enthusiasm spread to nine other members of the business community.
One of the requirements of Rotary International was that a new club have twenty members before it could be chartered. By September 1924 there was a total of eighteen members and the District Governor was convinced that the Mountain View group could carry on and the necessary charter was signed September 13, 1924.
