President Sandi welcomed members at 12.30pm.

 

Bob Williams urged us all to study the issues and vote.

 

Phil and all members sang with enthusiasm- Take me out to the Ball game.

 

President Sandi reported having walked in the rain on Sunday with Kirstin, Jerylann and some hundreds of Rotarians to support the End Polio event in San Francisco.

 

Alicia presented a Proclamation from State Assemblyman, Paul Fong recognizing Rotary efforts to End Polio. The Mayor of Mountain View will present the City proclamation tonight.

 

President Sandi had attended the Avenues of Service in San Jose along with about 600 Rotarians although this conflicted with the Giants Game.

Alicia hopes the Club will have a table at the Chamber of Commerce Celebration of Leaders at the Four Seasons Hotel in East Palo Alto on January 14. As a service club we can publicize our activities and nominate a leader for a special award.

Alicia leaves for Ghana on November 2 to take part in the immunization program.         

 

Gerry reminded us of the Rotary Foundation’s work in Ethiopia where Rotarians helped eight communities to build bridges after floods had cut off access.

 

Judy called out John Rinaldi, Jim Cochran, Steve Nichols and Ken Schwaderer to be fined for Birthdays and Anniversaries. President Sandi confessed that she and Kris are selling their business at Minuteman Press. Walt, Bill, Heather and Jenny-Rebecca were quizzed about the Five Avenues of Service.

 

Jim Cunningham introduced our speaker, Bob Simon, graduate and Fundraiser from Stanford, who entertained us with his Poetry- rhyming, understandable and appropriate for many interesting occasions.

 

Next week, November 2, Flu shots will be given by Rotacare prior to the meeting.  Donations will be accepted (usually $25 - $50).

 

Our speaker will be Beverly Tucker to talk about the Aids Project in Liberia.
