Speaker – Lisa Schmidt –Acterra’s Green at Home Program

Lisa Schmidt, owner of High Energy Audit, shared her upcoming project to assist the City of Mountain View in its project to reduce the city's energy consumption.  One key area is to reduce energy use by residential residents: 1) Base load energy - suggestion to reduce your consumption is to have hot water recirculation pumps, energy star appliances and unplug appliances when not in use. One key is to use the switch on a plasma TV to turn on/off rather than the remote.  2) Intermittent Loads: be aware of pools, hot tubs, and other outdoor energy use. It was noted air travel is a key contributor to energy consumption by Californian's.

Other suggestions:

·         Purchase a watt meter to test your own home

·         Use your smart meter to its potential:  sign up with PGE for an on-line account to view your own home's consumption through-out the day. It is free at:  http://www.pge.com/myhome/myaccount/myaccount/index.jsp
