Our International call to action for 2015-2016 is to “Be a Gift to the World

 Our club’s call to action is “Fun Through Service"   This year’s club focus is “Being the Best We Can Be.”  Thank you all for joining us today.

General Club Announcements:
 
  • Thanks to Nasim Farya for providing dessert today.
 
  • Community Service: Scott Johnson – Hope’s Corner, Oct. 24th, two shifts. 7:30 to 9 and 9 to 10:30.
 
  • Asante November 5th at the Elks Club in Sunnyvale. Proceeds support the MV RotaCare Clinic. It’s a great cause and a very fun event. Tickets – Judy Hannemann
 
  • Community Service: Scott/Bruce – Cops and Gobblers, Sun. Nov. 22 at Police Station, 1000 Villa
 
  • Next Board Meeting Thursday, October 22, 5:00 pm at CSA. NOTE: Change of location for this meeting only.
 
  • Our next Evening Social: Bruce - will be Tuesday October 27th, at Fred and Debbie Storek’s home. ( include next week) It will cost $15 per person who attends. Remember, if your birthday is this month, you get into the social for free!  
 
  • Holiday Party: Jerylann.  Mark your calendars! The holiday party is set for Friday, December 11 at Don Giovanni’s here in Mountain View. As you know, John Akkaya who runs Don Giovanni’s is a member of our Rotary club.

  • Many Rotarians have asked about the best way to help with the Butte and Valley fires. District Governor Susan Valenta has put out a letter with recommendations of organizations inside and outside of Rotary who will help, on clipboard.

District Announcements:
 
  • RYLA: A new schedule is out for us to follow. We need to reserve for the number of students we want to send to the Leadership Camp this summer. If you’d like to be involved in RYLA, contact Heather as our Youth Services Director. See the District Clipboard.
 
  • Rotary Means Business – Wed. Morning Oct 21 at 7 am, Featuring Speaker Steve Emslie “Working with Local Government: Effective Business Strategies.”  Channing House, PA
 
  • Youth Service Project Faire: Dec. 2, 4:30-6:00 pm, Interact leads District Cabinet meeting—6:30-8:00pm. India Community Ctr. 525 Los Coches St. Milpitas. Sign Up Sheet going around.
 
  • The District Conference on April 29 – May 1 is looking for sponsorships
 
Personal Sharing/Happy Bucks: If you share news with us and donate, those donations go to the Endowment and are used to generate scholarships for worthy local students.
 
 
SPEAKER – ROTACARE: Barbara Avery, El Camino Hospital, VP Community Relations spoke briefly of why and for whom RotaCare was created.  Also she informed of the services that they provide.
 
SPEAKER INTRO:  Judy Hannemann to introduce speaker Ayinde Rudolph, Superintendent of the Mountain View Whisman School District.
`Dr. Rudolph is an education consultant and former associate director of school transformation for the Buffalo Promise Neighborhood.  Its mission is to eliminate the achievement gab through a “cradle to college” community schools approach that utilizes coordinating all of community’s resources around each child.
 
Dr. Rudolph briefly walked us through the history of how classrooms were formed after the Industrial Revolution in the UK.  He thought that it was time that we change the way education is being taught at our schools.  He wants to revolutionize the education system with technology.   Make it more personalized to each child’s capabilities.

Speaker on Tuesday, October 20th is Jeff Harding, new Superintendent of the Mountain View Los Altos High School District.
