Meeting Notes – by Tom

                                                              

Tom Myers provided the thought that, even though the rhetoric and partisanship of this Presidential election has been quite depressing, we should still remember that our participatory democracy is what makes us special among nations.

President-Elect Scott Johnson introduced our visitor, David Simpson  past-president of the BallyMoney club in Northern Ireland. He is in California visiting relatives including his son in Mountain View.
 

Dick Lubman introduced two club members for vocational talks.  The first was Sanjay Dave, who told us about growing up and going to college in Colorado, then coming to California to work in the technology sector.  Later Paul Reinhart told us of his experience going from the Marine Corps, into various start-ups, finally to Genentech and then a leap to the Peace Corps.

Dave Cole and Jim Cunningham talked about volunteer opportunities in the coming weeks.  They include serving breakfast at Hope's Corner, ushering at Community School of Music and Art, and the annual Cops and Gobblers.

Personal Sharing came from members Jim Spangler, who shared that the first reviews of his son Nick in An American in Paris have been great; Bob Williams, who shared that he is back from Xian, China; and Jack Wong, who shared the not so good news of his recent identity theft and the hurdles one must undertake when that happens.

President Jerylann requested ideas for upcoming social gatherings.

Judy Hannemann announced that she is always looking for donations of toiletries and other items for Community Services Agency.  These items are terrific for homeless individuals.

Judy also announced that she is seeking donations for the read me a picture from our District Governor.

The District Conference is scheduled for May 6-7 in Santa Cruz.

The Thanksgiving week in Incline Village is still available, for those who want it.  And next week, we will be auctioning off two Warriors tickets with a $700 value---thank you Jack Wong!!

Dick Lubman introduced our speaker, Mountain View Mayor Pat Showalter.  The Mayor talked about the affordable housing crisis affecting Mountain View and some ways that the city is dealing with it.
