SPEAKERS & PRESENTATIONS:
Heather introduced, Valerie, our Rotary Exchange Student for this past year.  Valerie thanked the Club for this experience and shared some highlights.  It has been 9 months since she came on the exchange program.   Last week she graduated from Mountain View High School.   Next week she leaves on a trip with other Rotary Exchange students to New York and the East Coast.   Then, after returning, she departs for Belgium (home) on June 30th.   A definite highlight during her year has been getting to know the other Rotary Exchange students.   As part of the year they have been on trips to:  Santa Cruz, Hawaii, and Florida.  She restated her appreciation to the Rotary Club for the exchange student opportunity and especially was appreciative of the host families, to include Sanjay and his family.  After returning to Belgium she will attend a university and plans to study psychology.

Dick introduced Jack Higgins, Los Altos Rotary Club member and chair of the Los Altos Rotary AIDS Project.   Jack explained how this program has been in operation for 25 years, making progress in prevention of childhood AIDS.   The current focus is mother to child AIDS transmission in Africa.    Through a new partnership with “Save the Children,” program expansion is planned to include 28 clinics, with new programs in Ethiopia.   Jack thanked Mountain View Rotary Club for the great support provided.   After the presentation, Jerylann announced that “as a token of our appreciation, we will be making a donation in your name to our local RotaCare Clinic”… of which Jack is a Board member.

Jerylann announced that next week’s speaker will be Bud McKinsey and Monique will be the “4-fer.”  She then adjourned the meeting.
