Meeting Notes by Scott

                                                                                 

Scott Johnson, President-Elect substituting for President Jerylann, greeted everyone to the meeting and led them in repeating the slogan:  We are a Fun, Enthusiastic & Inspiring Rotary Family…we are the BEST Rotary Club around!!!  He also announced the International theme for 2016-2017 is “Rotary Serving Humanity” and our District Governors call to action is “Attract the Young, Have Lots of Fun, Get More Done! …. our Clubs call to action is: “Make the World A Better Place!”

 
Speaker:
Dick Lubman introduced our speaker, Renee Zimmerman, Director at the YMCA.  Renee shared the proud heritage of YMCA and of its founding in Mountain View in 1980.   She addressed their current key focus areas of youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility.   
 
 
Next Week:  Our speaker next Tuesday, 12/06 will be: John Haverman, Ph.D., Principal at Marin Economic Consulting, who will speak on “Poverty in Silicon Valley.”  Our 4fer will be Dick Lubman
 
Fred Storek led the Pledge of Allegiance.  Dennis Kobza, “4 fer” for the day, gave some appropriate and humorous thoughts.  Dennis was thanked for providing the delicious desserts.  Phil Armi led a song.   Visitors were introduced.  
 
Dick Lubman introduced Alan Goodman who gave an enlightening and entertaining vocational speech.  It was suggested that Alan had enough material that he should write a book.   
 
Monique Kane recognized several club members for their foundation contributions and thanked the club for their generous foundation support. 
           
 
General Club Announcements:
  • Dave Cole gave updates on the Community School of Music and Art service project  
  • Cops & Gobblers went very well.   Bob Williams gave some insights on that day. 
  • Scott Johnson reminded all of the upcoming Holiday Party on December 10th and passed around the clip board for sign up.  
  • Next Board Meeting, Thursday 12/15, 5 pm at CHAC
  • President’s Club: We will not be doing fines again this year and I would like to encourage our membership to join the Presidents Club…we have had great participation so far, 21 members, please join them!
  • Our Auctions are going great…our next Auction will be December 13th….please let us know if you have anything you would like to donate as an Auction Item.
 
District Announcements:
  • District Conference scheduled for May 6-7 in Santa Cruz. If you would like information on hotels, please let Jerylann know.
  • RYLA, we must confirm if we will send our allocated spots, which is 4 by 11/30. Must pay for them by January 30th. (Heather)
  • Speech Contest is in February (Judy & Sanjay). The Area 9 contest will be hosted by the Los Altos Sunset Rotary Club on March 14.
  • There is a new Passport Club. Meets the first Saturday of each month in Milpitas. They want to assist other clubs with their projects and are ready to volunteer.
  • The RI International President’s Dinner is January 3 at 6 pm and SJ DoubleTree, cost is $85.
