Learning about animals

CAYUCOS-SEASIDE ROTARY March 24, 2011 Present: Emily, Gary, Gladys, Liz W. Dick, Pam, Sherry, Liz G., Jan Guest Speaker: Linda Hardy, Animal Services, Humane Educator Educates children on the care of dogs and getting animals spayed and neutered. Also, safety around dogs. She teaches the bite zone. Shows how to relax the body to be calm around the dog. Do dogs chase rabbits? Yes. Do dogs chase trees? No! Stand still like a tree with shoulders and hands relaxed. Has a summer camp for teenagers, one on one. Teen staff gets more than 300 hrs. a summer. Families are involved sibling to sibling. Shelter used to put down 6,000 animals a year. Four years ago there was 0 for adoptable animals. Program is going to be cancelled due to budgets after June 30, 2011. April 30, Rotarian work day. International: Donate to Japanese relief through Rotary International. $250 voted on a passed. April 9 and 16 District Assembly Liz W will be going. Need everyone available to go.
