Rotary Club of Cayucos-Seaside Thursday, January 07, 2010 Call to order: 7:10 a.m. Pledge Invocation Club Business: ï‚· Exchanged Banners with the Carpinteria Club-Thanks Wade for attending our meeting this morning. ï‚· Recruiting going strong in other clubs. Membership needs to be a priority this year. We need to think of something in terms of a membership drive. We need to make some community notice. We are joining the Morro Bay Club for: International Rotary Work Day. ï‚· Electronics pick-up coming up will provide exposure along with the cookbook. ï‚· Liz G. is going to PETS ï‚· Mid-terms are coming up and several members are going. ï‚· Liz W. Cookbooks have arrived and all members need to help sell the $10.00 dollar item. We have 550 total. Sign them out and sell them at your place of business or give them as gifts. ï‚· E-recycling January 16th! ï‚· Guest Speaker: Carol Smith Senior Peer Counseling ï‚· Goal is to improve the quality of life for San Luis Obispo County Seniors ï‚· Volunteers work in their community ï‚· Addresses an unmet need because their clients cannot drive anymore, health is poor and other circumstances make them homebound. ï‚· Service provides emotional support and helps them access resources they are not aware of. Help them navigate the process to help them with services. ï‚· Provide referrals to resources and be intouch to provide support. ï‚· Average length of client is one hour a week for 6 months. ï‚· Application and interview process does exist. They have to make sure the person has the right attitude and experience. ï‚· For more information contact: 805-547-7025 Ext. 15 or their website at seniorpeer@wilshirehcs.org ï‚· Suzanne McFarlane with the program called Caring Callers and makes home visits to isolated Seniors. ï‚· Been in the area since 1981 started by Cal Poly students and continued from there. ï‚· Objective is to play games, reminisce and work on friendships. ï‚· 8 people are on the waiting list with Los Osos the hot spot. ï‚· Goal is to build a life long friendship while offering services along with the personal connection. ï‚· Orientation and application process is available. Background check is required. ï‚· They match you up with like interests.
