Eric and Erika, two Cal Poly students, presented their goals for "Engineers without Borders." These two confident and articulate individuals are doing amazing things and helping many around the world. Learn more about these humanitarians in the meeting minutes.
 

Rotary Club of Cayucos-Seaside

Call to order: 7:10 a.m.

Pledge

Invocation: Thank you for your commitment and dedication to service.

Club Business:

Literacy Month: goal to promote early childhood reading. Donate a book a month to preschool children. Chances are greater of completing high school and going on to college.

What is Rotary: Service above self. 33,000 clubs in 200 countries. The Rotary Foundation non-profit organization to promote world understading and humanitarian efforts.

New ideas for the Morro Bay Car Show. First weekend in May. Put on your thinking caps. All ideas are welcome-don't be shy.

Field Trip to Cayucos School March 17th, 3:15 p.m. Rotary will be dark!

Membership Chair is Liz W. Great job Liz-you are recruiting the best of the best!

Group 11 District 5240 Basic PERLS Friday, April 3rd in Santa Barbara and Saturday, April 4th.

Community News: Lioness Enchiladas, Gift prizes for Cayucos Dog Park, Spring Fling Madonna Inn-CASA, Engineers without Borders Bowlathon. 7-9 tonight mustangs lanes in the university union in the student center at Cal Poly.

EWB Cal Poly: Engineering Students with a Mission. Founded in Colorado in 2000. Non profit humanitarian organization established to partner with developing communities worldwide in order to improve their quality of life.

200 chapter

Currently 170 projects in 41 nations

Around 50 active student members in Thailand, Nicaragua, Southeast Asia.

Village of Mae Nam Khun-helping out the primary school K-8. Key Concerns: cleanliness of drinking water, built dorms, help the community.

June 2008 Slow Sand Filter

Nicaragua: 3,500 war refugees, predominantly women and children, asthma and domestic violence a large problem. Large unemployment population.

Project: build a health clinic-materials are costly and limited due to location of site.

Goals: provide women safe sanitary birth conditions, provide a basic medical facility with antibiotics and safe care for domestic violence victims.

What's next: fundraising.

South East Asia Team: Plans: Building Codes, Compost Toilets

7-9 Bowling on Campus;

Saturday, May 30th, 2-6 p.m. Restaurants will make signature sample sizes of their dishes and a silent auction. The Clubhouse is the venue.
