Gang Task Force:
Deputy Sheriff Hussein Abbas worked for the Sheriff's Department for three years and was recently assigned to the Gang Task Force. Prior to being  assigned to the Gang Task Force, he worked patrol at the coast station. While in the Gang Task Force and on patrol, he has investigated numerous gang related crimes and interviewed dozens of gang members.
Interviews members of the various gangs in the county.  There is a problem, but not to the degree of LA County.  Keeps the gang situation at bay.   1988 made it a crime to be in a street gang.  Penal Code 186.2 defines a street gang.

Continuing to commit those crimes.  Murder, rape, narcotics, internet identity, violent crimes.
Most visible  in PR 13, Oceano 13, Nipomo 13.  Predominiately Hispanics.
13 stands for M (Mexican Mafia).  Can have sub-gangs.  Old Nipomo, Barrio Oak Park. There are north Noestra Familia, color red and south gangs, Mexican mafia, color blue. 
Hard core members strive to go to prison.  Value fear, intimidation, violence and negative social values.
Gangs started by protecting each other.  Common violations burglaries, unlocked cars, narcotics.  Violent crimes committed against each other.  Can start recruits beginning at 10-14 yrs .
The Gang Task Force works  with parole, anti-gang co\rdinating commission- provides alternatives to joining gangs.  Coordinates tattoo removal, job placement.
There are two full time officers who  work with probation and parole.   One full time probation officer for the whole county. Adjouned @ 8:00 am
