I want to thank the members that were able to attend our meeting last week.  I have attached the recap and zoom recording link for your review.  Author Don Bestwick who wrote "Sometimes a Sergeant" is a US Army Veteran will be our guest speaker this week.  Please don't miss his presentation.

REMEMBER:  We will be taking pictures of our members for the Parade of Champion virtual event.  Please try to have your Rotary background on.  If you have problems, please contact me anytime.  See you on zoom!

Zoomer Headcount: We had 33 Zoomers online today. We still need to pass the word and get the non-Zoomers away from LAUGH-IN reruns and on to our meeting. The new breakout room format used today worked well. Members were assigned to smaller groups for conversation prior to the main meeting. Everyone was hoping they would be in Ted Keech’s breakout but he was absent. Maybe next week.

The Greeting and Inspiration:  Dr. Stella Kemp took some time away from trying to figure out how to educate Santa Clara kids in a Covid environment and led the greeting and inspiration. She had two great tips. One is a Facebook site labeled “What do you see from your window?”. This site shows you the views from participant windows all over the world. You can travel from the safety of your own home and see some interesting views.

The second was a quote from C.L. Murphy:

Thanks Stella, well done.

The Pledge:  PP Bob Buchser, the man that does not need a microphone, led the pledge. No kneeling was noted but some got up slower than others.

Guests:
Welcome back Eddie Everett. We are all looking forward to meeting you in person. Hopefully you enjoyed Gary Citti’s flowers last weekend.

Birthdays and Anniversaries:
PP Miten Marfatia celebrates on September 5. Patti Smith will celebrate on September 6. Happy birthday to both!

Tressa and Ken Williams celebrate anniversary #22 on September 5. They opted out of Europe or South America for a cruise and selected a tour of Morgan Hill to mark the day, with masks and all social distancing. Sounds like a great day! Tressa…...wear RED.

We care:
Don Skinner was in his office bunker explaining the DOW drop today to all his customers so missed this Zoom. We last heard he was in deep conversation with Warren Buffet after convincing Warren yesterday to hang on to Apple one more day, then sell. President Mike filled in for Skinner:

Joe Hart will soon be back to his free tire rotations and dirt cheap Lexus deals. His carpal tunnel surgery went well. He can now grip a pencil again but be careful when buying a car…...he may use the sympathy ploy. Demand the free rotations and hold out for 4 oil changes.

EZ Perez ZOOMED in today from Stanford Hospital as his wife Cathy was having surgery to install a stint. EZ reported that the surgery went well and Cathy will be going home today at 4:30.  Great news!

Announcements:
Tim Ford looked dapper in his Armadillo Willy’s Face Mask…...black in color to hide the BBQ stains on the bottom area of the mask. I am now declaring a special SHOW US YOUR MASK section for this humble bulletin. No Tim Ford black is allowed. Something like this that is acceptable for a former car dealer:
Email me your favorite mask and you may make the cut for publication.

Happy Hour at Jack Holder’s was a success. The long lost John Bertolotti actually showed up. Joe Sweeney was there for the free wine. I think we had about 20 people in attendance. President Mike apologized to us poor distant Zoomers for no Zoom presentation so I missed all of it. Carver was also disappointed as his new haircut is looking great...and he was not set up.

Parade of Champions:  Our next meeting will be the time for us to take a screen shot for the P of C virtual parade. Please try to get your Rotary Background set on your Zoom screen in time for the meeting. If you have any questions, call Mike. It is only a couple of Clicks to get it done.

District Governor:  The District is now accepting nominations for a future District Governor. Interviews will be held for all applicants on October 31. DGIW Jan Eric Nordmo cleared the slate for any member that wants their name thrown in this year’s hat. Jan is waiting for a future draft effort to sweep him into office.

District Relief Fund: District 5170 has created a District Relief fund as a way for members to contribute to help fellow clubs/members that have been affected by the recent fires. President Mike will give us the contact information if you want to contribute.

September 19, 2020:  Put this date on your calendar…...NOT President Mike’s September 17. We have a club social planned for Fortino Winery. The owner has given our club a large outdoor area in the back. You will need to sign up for this event. Stella Kemp will be sending out the enrollment details soon. (Wear your best mask!).

Today’s Speaker:  Our resident Secretary of State, Dan Holder, introduced todays speaker:
Dr. Grabbe gave us some fascinating insights on one thing we are always looking for but never think about: Parking. He went into the nuts and bolts on how cities determine where the parking goes and how the planning process works to get it there. He also had one statistic that he requested our guess:
The answer will surprise you on both underground and above ground. Watch the video to get the answer. All meetings are posted online 24 hours after presented. Try it!

See you next week! Send me some good pictures of your mask. We gotta have some colorful ones out there……...
