Last Thursday, Anne Kepner was our guest speaker and provided all of us with an overview of Mission City Community Fund.  I have attached the zoom link and Bob Rick's meeting recap for your review.

During our meeting, PPx2 Bill Carver announced that he will be officially leaving our club.  He joined the Rotary club of Lake Travis in Texas.  I would like to thank Bill for all his years of support and guidance with our club.  He will be missed, but he is always welcomed to join one of our meetings.

Tressa Williams played our club video that was created for the Parade of Champions.  I will try to get it posted on our website for your viewing pleasure.  Thank you Tressa for a great job and working with the Interactor.

Greeting and Inspiration:  PPx2 Bill Carver handled the opening ceremonies. His inspiration took from the Teddy Roosevelt quote regarding the respect you should show not for the critic but for the Man in the Arena. Bill reminded us that the men and women in the arena today are the police and first responders. The looters have a choice to loot or not loot. The police have to enter that looter’s arena daily to protect all of us. It is not an easy job.

PPx2 Bill completed his comments by announcing that he has joined the Rotary Club of Lake Travis/Lakeway, Texas near his new home as of this date and will be departing TGRCITW in body, but not in spirit, as he works to make his new club the Second GRCITW. Bill will be missed for his service and dedication to this club. Hopefully we will still see him on Zoom.

Note: Your humble scribe is trying to educate him on the way of Texans. It is a slow process. He passed his first major Rotary test by never noting to the Lake Travis group that he graduated from The University of California at Berkeley. Being a Marine and a retired cop is fully accepted. Next to the Kremlin, Berkeley is #2 on the suspect list of organizations in Texas.

Anniversaries:
The maestro of Eastern Furniture and one of the all time great guys, Tucker Laesecke, is celebrating 65 years of marriage to Ann this week. It brings to mind a comment I got on a recent trip as I was meeting a new couple. The man proudly said he and his wife had been married 65 years. The wife quickly chimed in, “You get less time than that for murder.”  They both laughed. Congratulations Tucker and Ann.

We Care:
Don Skinner was called away to Omaha, Nebraska for a conference with his client Warren Buffet after securing $100,000,000 in cash for Michael Bloomberg to spread around in Florida.

In his stead, President Mike noted that Joann Moul was going in for knee surgery today and we all wished her well in her recovery.

Announcements and Updates:

Fortino:  All had a great time. It was fun to see live people again even if at a social distance. President Mike is still looking for some missing bottles of 100 year old wine that used to reside in his underground cellar prior to the Post Fortino gathering……..

Steps for Success: Dan Winter needs help! We only have 8 Rotarians enrolled for the day of the event and only 3 enrolled for the set up the evening prior.
Please use these links to sign up for one or both or just email Dan:
Note: You have to TYPE in the links if you go from this communication. Please get involved today. This is a major annual event for the club. Date is still October 31. Colleen reports this costume has been taken by Walt Marwitz but she has other ideas:
Rebuild: Bill Kelly reported we had 10 signed up for the Rebuild project on October 24 in Santa Clara. We need more people!

Luckily #11…..Phil Auger, raised his hand during the meeting to volunteer. This ensures any Rotarian attending will get to witness a true artist with a paint brush….both on the house and on his clothes. Phil can scrape paint also.

Send Bill Kelly an email ASAP if you can help. All tools will be provided. Probably a free T-shirt will be included. You just need to show up, stir the paint for Phil, keep his ladder moving and duct tape his torn clothing. If lucky, Phil will sign your shirt. You may also be able to witness Andy Ratermann dropping paint on his hat while missing his shoes.
Parade of Champions:
Tressa played her final cut of the Santa Clara Rotary video prepared for the Parade of Champions virtual parade. She and her associate did a fantastic job. If you want to view it I can assume it will be posted on our club web site. Check it out! You may be in it! Thanks Tressa! Well done.

Guest Speaker:
Our club Secretary of State, Dan Holder, introduced today’s speaker:

Ann is an accomplished attorney, mother to three and a volunteer extraordinaire. She was with us today to discuss the Mission City Community Fund in her position as Chair of the Board of Directors.
I first learned about the MCCF when two guys showed up in my office at Frontier Infiniti…...Jerry Marsalli and Joe Sweeney. Jerry was a customer and Joe was the current MCCF Chair. All they wanted was a free car to raffle. Needless to say we negotiated from there, but we did start the car raffle.

Later on they showed up again and I was on the board. But I got even as Jerry and Joe joined Rotary. As an MCCF board member I was soon issued a grant request from a non-profit. My task was to investigate the organization and give my feedback whether to approve. I opened my package. The MCCF gave me a $5000 request from the Rotary Club of Santa Clara……...they got the money.

Ann updated us today on the workings of the club and how much MCCF has accomplished in our community since 1986. This is not easy and takes a lot of hard work from dedicated people to make it
happen:
Over $3.5 million dollars since 2000 is truly an amazing record and we are lucky to have the MCCF working in our community. Ann gave special kudos to Intel Corporation for their very generous support through the years.

The MCCF annual fundraiser is approaching:
Please go online to get full details of this year’s virtual auction and award ceremonies. The auction will have some great packages to bid on and it all goes to helping the Santa Clara community. They need all of us to help if they are to continue their good work.
