Last Thursday, Venture Capitalist Jennifer Vancini spoke to our club.  She is the General and Founding Partner of Mighty Capital.  Please be sure to read Bob Ricks recap and review our recording of the  meeting.  The recap is attached and the zoom meeting recording is below.

Stay healthy and be safe!  See you next week.

Don Skinner fortunately had no new information about any member except himself. He is recovering from his recent heart attack scare and again thanks all the members for the outpouring of support during a tough time.

Larry led us in the official Shout Out and Inspiration. He mentioned that it was one year ago on March 11 that we were all told to stay home for a few weeks to “flatten the curve” of the Covid Virus spread. We are still at it one year later. All of us hope that things will be back to normal soon. Larry’s words to the club: Keep Going! Don’t Give Up! We are on the verge to overcome the virus. Well said.

Welcome to a visitor from the Rotary Club of San Jose: Ed Correia.

Our esteemed treasurer, CJ Grewal, spent his birthday evening on a Board Meeting Zoom. I think PP Andy Ratermann sang a song for the occasion. CJ will be making up for the evening by heading to Santa Barbara.

The Pride of Hereford, Texas, PP Lou Ann Alexander will be celebrating on March 13. She was lost in action for this Zoom. Happy Birthday to both!

Dave Cowan and wife Keith celebrated #30 anniversary with dinner at a Japanese Restaurant…...hopefully they snuck indoors and Gavin did not have the cameras running.

Ted Moorhead is out still celebrating his 12th year of membership in TGRCITW. Thanks for all the contributions through the years, Ted.

Don Skinner fortunately had no new information about any member except himself. He is recovering from his recent heart attack scare and again thanks all the members for the outpouring of support during a tough time.

Special Note:  President Mike wanted to again invite all members to tune in to our weekly Happy Hour at 5:30 on Zoom. The stories are getting better as Happy Hour grows in popularity. You missed a Walt (was in Vietnam) Marwitz golf story that is one for the ages. Easy’s trip to Yosemite and best of all: Ted’s Cat! Folks, this is major stuff! Try to tune in next week. You never know what will happen next.

Steps:   Time is close! We need 8 to 9 more volunteers for March 19 to make this a success. PLEASE call Dan Winter and let him know you can be one of them.

Foundation:  Contact PP Andy Ratermann to find out how to tune in to the March 16 meeting.

Board Meeting:   President Elect Bill Kelly reported on his experience at PETS….President Elect Training School. Bill said it was a good session and great training for leading a Rotary Club. There is more training scheduled for next week. Our club for years had a 100% attendance record at PETS until one member opted to pass. His unopened binder has been sent to the RI Museum.

Club Runner Update:   PP Colleen Noll and her team are still working on the Club Runner update. Action: Please. Log in to your account and update all of your information…..photo included. We have a few high school graduation photos for members now collecting Medicare. Check yours out. Hair styles have changed. FuManchu mustaches are also out.

Social Outing:  Stay tuned! Mike and Stella are working on another cooking event as well as a potential golf outing at the Pruneridge Gold Course.

PP BBQ:  The original date for this annual event was May 20. The board decided to delay the event until the end of June as Covid wanes. President Mike will announce the date soon. It will still be outside at the Elks Club.

Club Finances:  Our club finances are in good shape. Please let CJ or President Mike know if any member is having financial concerns due to Covid. We want to keep all our members and will work with anyone in financial stress. This has been a rough 12 months for all of us.

Santa Clara Rotary Park:  Our club dedicated this park years ago. PE Bill Kelly is working with a team to update the signage as well as clean up the entire area. Let Bill know if you would like to assist.

Next Week:  Hal Hendrickson, VP of the Boys Scouts of America, will be our speaker. All Eagle Scouts should be in uniform. I am sure they still fit.

PP Dan Holder, TV personality and current Club Secretary of State, introduced our speaker for this week: Jennifer Vancini.
Jennifer gave us an intriguing presentation on how the venture capital business works, where to find start ups, how they are evaluated and then took questions from the group. It was a very enjoyable speech and I highly recommend watching her on the ClubRunner video. Andy has done it again!

See you next week
