We hit a new record with 41 people attending our meeting. Our guest speaker was Kevin Surace and he talked about Artificial Intelligence and Covid. His presentation was very interesting and went beyond 1:30pm. You must read Bob's recap and watch the zoom recording.

Zoomers in attendance: We had 41 online today…...a record!
Greeting and Inspiration: Heath Hanich hid the diaper bags for a short while
to appear online to greet us and inspire. His inspiration came from comedian Dave Chappelle and Dave’s comments on how nice it is to live in a small town in Ohio versus a large city. Heath compared working in Rotary to the same feel as living in a small town…...regardless of politics or beliefs we all work together as a team to do good things in our community. Well said!
Eddie Everett slipped in for another guest appearance as did former member Maria Daane and PPx2 Bill Carver.
Maria had a great story about a recent contact with a student she had assisted with a Santa Clara Rotary scholarship over five years ago. The student now has a great job at Amazon and is doing well in life. She was pleased to let us know how much this student appreciated the help he received from our club.
Bob Wedig was also online. He is a personal friend of our guest speaker today and wanted to see the presentation. Welcome, Bob!
PP Bob Buchser has been celebrating his birthday all over Silicon Valley for the last week. His final stop was at Teske’s Germania last Tuesday…..unless something else comes up. Happy Birthday Bob!
PP (and current Secretary of State) Dan Holder celebrated 26 years in our club on October 20 and tried to get PP Joe Sweeney to buy him a drink in honor of the occasion last Tuesday. He did not succeed…...Sweeney passed on the offer and left town for Arizona. (See HH paragraph). A few members thought they heard a bell ringing in Sweeney’s trunk as he drove away…….
Jim Landes celebrated 22 years with our club after moving over to TGRCITW in the great migration when the other Santa Clara club closed down in 1998. PP Dave DeLozier received District 5170 recognition for membership increases in his year due to the purge.
Don is back! Warren Buffett has released him from Omaha. Don reports that PP Larry Fargher is recovering well from recent cataract surgery and is online with us today with Lois. Great news about Larry!
STEPS: We are good to go with one exception. We need some trucks or SUV’s to help pick up the shoes and get them to the event site. Contact Dan Winter if you can assist.
REBUILD: Bill Kelly reports we are set and ready to go. Fortunately, the prep work on the house has been completed for us. All our team will need to do is to apply the final coat of paint.
Both PP Walt Marwitz (was in Vietnam) and PP Phil (Mumbles) Auger will be there fighting it out on who can slop on the most paint. Larry Sacks will be recording the battle by camera and video for the local newspaper. This battle will be better than Miles v Lisa. You need to be there!
NOMINATING COMMITTEE: The club has spoken. The committee to choose our President for 2022-23 will be: Dan Holder, Chair, Lou Ann Alexander, Mike Moul, Jan Eric Nordmo, Ken Rowell and Andy Ratermann plus PE Bill Kelly, President Mike Sellers and Past President Colleen Noll. Dan will set the date for the committee to meet. The white smoke will not show until our Christmas party. Stay tuned!
BOARD MEETING: President Mike announced that the board approved a $500 donation to the Wilcox Robotics program. Our logo will now appear on their official T-shirt as appreciation. Their one project 50 years ago resulted in the Keech robot…….now they are ready to try again.
We are trying to get together for Scotch Tasting event. PP Jan Eric Nordmo is the chair of the event. Details to follow.
The Marsalli Thanksgiving Event will not be held this year due to Covid. President Mike announced we had $750 allocated to the event. We will now entertain ideas from club members on how to use the money to help others during Thanksgiving. Contact Mike Sellers with your thoughts.
October 24 is World Polio Day. If you would like to make a contribution to this cause contact Sandy Allen.
SWEENEY HAPPY HOUR AT JACK HOLDERS: A good time was had by all. Over 30 people showed up to collect drinks from Sweeney that had been promised them through the years. They figured this was the last time to be reimbursed, if ever. Best wishes to Joe and Linda in their new home. Hopefully we all get invitations to the first Prescott Rotary BBQ Championship next year. Thanks

Future Speaker: Next week will be Edward Panelli, a former Associate Justice of the Supreme Court of California. This should be interesting. Ed is a native Santa Clara guy.
Greg Giusiana, District Governor of 5170, will be our speaker the week after. Sweeney and Nordmo will be in the audience taking notes.

Kevin was introduced by the dulcet tones of EZ Perez. EZ was later to find that Kevin’s presentation included the forecast of the death of the lawyer profession along with car dealers. (We can survive with no lawyers…..but NO car dealers!) I do recommend that you go online and watch Kevin’s program. It is filled with fascinating forecasts for the future of AI. Below are a few of the slides to whet your appetite but you would be better served to log in and see for yourself. EZ is still in shock…..
The stories about the blueberry muffins and the attack on the robot are interesting.
