Ron Golansky is an Administrator with
O’Connor Hospital and one of our newest Rotarians and he welcomed us all with
his savvy enthusiasm. Ron inspired us all with a beautiful
words that encourage us all to live life to the fullest. Thank you for sharing Ron.
The Avenues of Service is this Thursday
and we encourage all board members, chairs and red badgers to attend.
Our Scotch Tasting Event is this
Saturday evening at Viva’s is Los Gatos.
Colleen and Jan have an entertaining and educational evening planned for
all those who are attending. Wine,
hors d’oeuvres and Scotch Tasting and great raffle prizes are all a part of a wonderful
evening to look forward to.
The hat was passed at the meeting of October 06 and $600 was raised for Boy Scout Troop 394 in Santa Clara who had $3,200 worth of tents, stoves, cooking gear and walkie-talkies stolen. Thank you, Rotarians.
Eighteen of us will be attending “Bells Are Ringing” at Pioneer High School on Friday night and for those interested we will be meeting at the Hay Market on Lincoln Avenue for some dinner before the show. We are looking forward to seeing Ken perform…on stage that is!
Those who volunteered for Steps for Success led by Michael Beck were recognized for helping out the past two weeks providing over 550 deserving children with a new pair of shoes for this upcoming school year. We may not always be recognized for our efforts in the community, but you should, “never underestimate the value of your goodness.” Thank you Mike and all those who volunteered and continue to live by the motto of, “Service Above Self.”
Bill Carver educated us with a PowerPoint presentation (Power Point Presentation by Bill Carver) on The Rotary Foundation (TRF) and reminded us of the importance of Every Rotarian Every Year on the importance we all give something. We may never encounter the recipients from our financial contributions to TRF, but the impact of your generosity will be felt for years to come.
Lexus of Stevens Creek and Santa Clara Rotary are teaming up and will have an E-Waste collection fundraiser on November 05. ALL ROTARIANS are encouraged to drop off computers, laptops, printers, copiers, fax, keyboards, mouse, monitors, boards, memory, cables, any size TV, cameras, Christmas lights, copper wire, extension cords, dads, iPods etc. Bill will address this in more detail at this weeks meeting.
October 12, Steve Rainbolt celebrated 5 years of service and on October 14, Frank Walsh and John Elwood celebrated 1 year of service to Santa Clara Rotary.
Tressa celebrated her birthday on October 07 and President Dan and Anna celebrated 16 years of marriage on the 7th as well.
Miles number was picked in Joker’s Wild but he came up a loser in the draw!
Dan introduced Dr. James Garrison to the club and he delivered a well-articulated and thought provoking talk on Escalating Climate Turbulence. Jim began college at Pepperdine University (1969-70), attended the University of Tel Aviv in 1972, and received a B.A. magna cum laude in World History from the Santa Clara University (1973). He then received a double M.T.S. in Christology and History of Religion from Harvard Divinity School (1975); and a Ph.D. in Philosophical Theology from Cambridge University (1982). Jim is an amazing and talented orator and his presentation was educational and riveting. Thank you Jim.
This week we will hear from San Jose State University Football Coach, Mike MacIntyre. Prior to the meeting be sure to visit the “Spartan Team Bus” that will be parked in front of the Hilton Santa Clara! Go Spartans!
