This week's Dose of Rotary Information is a short one. It is a quickie overview of the concept of District. As a club, number 508, we are part of District 5170. There are over 500 Districts in the world.

District this and District that.what are they talking about. I have not gotten used to my own club and they want me to participate in District Events; what's the point.

The point is simple: these events are the unifying elements that help create an atmosphere of learning and fellowship so necessary for us to be good and active Rotarians in our own clubs. District takes us from our clubs to our greater communities to our Zone and to the world of Rotary across the globe.

Through these District events we have an opportunity to participate, learn and enjoy the fellowship of the world of Rotary. We meet ordinary people who do extraordinary things; people who are changing our communities, our nation and our world. We get ideas for things that we can do to make a change. We learn by seeing how we change things by passing out an inexpensive dictionary; how we change lives by spending and hour a week mentoring a young person.

District events are the opportunities to gain the sense that what we do around the corner gets done around the world. It is like a rally in the best sense of the word. We rally around each other (fellowship), we rally around idea (projects), and we learn that by Sharing and Caring we change ourselves and then we change the world.
