Most of us in the Club remember the Unabomber. At last week’s meeting we got to hear a firsthand account of the search for and capture of Ted Kaczynski. Max Noel a retired FBI agent was part of the team of investigators assigned to find and arrest the Unabomber. Between 1978 and 1995 Kaczynski engaged in a bombing campaign targeted at people involved in modern technology. During that period he sent 16 bombs through the postal system resulting in the death of 3 people and injuries to 23. After a lengthy and costly search he was arrested in April, 1996 at his one room cabin in an isolated area in the mountains of Montana. Max Noel was one of the arresting agents.  Mr. Noel shared many interesting facets of the case that one normally doesn’t hear about and had many more details to pass onto us.  Thirty minutes just wasn’t long enough to cover all of the nuances of the case. Mr. Noel presentation was excellent and he could be a future speaker to shed more light on the Unabomber case.

A few members were missing from the meeting as they attended the “Best In the West Reno Rib Feast”.  Joe Sweeney, Nick Streit (celebrating 31 year in the Club), Miles Barber, Tim Ford & Gary Citti attended the event to get ideas for expanding our own BBQ competition.  We expect to get an update at this week’s meeting. Thank you all for taking the time to learn how we can grow and make our event even better.

We have the Santa Clara Art and Wine festival coming up along with Steps to Success.  Signup sheets were passed around and will be available at this week’s meeting.  Please put your names down for a shift or two.

A video on OPERATION SURF was presented.  This is a program put on by a group of volunteers to honor and heal our wounded military heroes. The method of healing is by teaching wounded active duty and veterans to surf.  The event will be April, 2015 in Santa Cruz and there are volunteer and donation opportunities. The Club is considering how we may participate. Your feedback on the program would be appreciated.

At this week’s meeting we will be kicking off the event to provide supplies to our local classroom as part of the District Governors visit in October.  A very valuable item will be auctioned off to start this campaign.  You will want to be part of the bidding with Police Chief Mike Sellers as the auctioneer.

Our speaker this week’s comes via Marguerite Padovoni. The Honorable Mike Wasserman, Santa Clara County Supervisor, will give us an update on happenings in the County. Be there to get the scoop.

See you all on Thursday.
