Weekly Club News Update!

Last Week’s Meeting. It was all about the BBQ at last week’s meeting which was held on the grounds of Central Park in the new BBQ Bistro. Set up for the SVBBQ Championships was in its second day and the area was starting to fill up with the Pro- Teams. Those helping with set up took a short break to have lunch and get the final details from Joe Sweeney and his crew of Frank Walsh, Nick Strait, Lizzy Baron, and Gerry Kosko. Gerry had his band of employees from Suhr Risk Services helping with the setup which added to the fun. Their contributions and willingness to help with the event is deserving of a big thank you.
And what an event it was. By 4:00 PM on Friday everything was in place and ready to go. Bay Area Builders constructed and assembled what has to be the longest bar I have ever seen. The Beer Garden tent, the biggest we have ever had, was ready to handle hundreds of visitors, the BBQ Bistro took on a special look, the food and other venders were in place, the BBQ teams offering samples had their pits going, and the smell of BBQ filled the park. Then for two days people enjoyed the event with Club members and other volunteers working several shifts to make sure everyone was served, parking was available, the BBQ judges were taken care of, the sampling teams were paid, and all of the other tasks associated with sponsoring the event were handled. We could not do this without the support of the club members, the volunteers, and off course our partners, the Parks and Recreation Department for the City of Santa Clara who, incidentally, won the Mayor’s Cup in the Backyard Competition.
Hats off to all of you who helped make this the best SVBBQ event to date. What a way to end the Rotary year.
Polio Plus. At the insistence for many attendees small tip jars appeared in the tent and beer booth. Tips collected in the Margareta area are going Polio Plus ($677)
This Weeks Meeting. For this week, it is the traditional debunking of the outgoing president. Past president Lou Ann Alexander is hosting the meeting. This is your chance to get some digs in so take advantage of it. If for some unknown reason I miss the meeting I want to thank each and every one of our members for your support and the incredible things you do that make this the Greatest Rotary Club in the World.
