Weekly Club News Update!

3/5/2015

Our speaker last week was Dr Hi-Dong Chai. Dr. Chai was born in Korea and educated in the United States with a PhD in Engineering. While he has established himself as an authority in his field with numerous inventions and publications he told the story of his life living under four different political systems- Imperialist Japan, Communist North Korea, Democratic South Korea, and the United States of America. Most of his story was told via an entertaining, but serious, cartoon created by Dr. Chai’s son. At the end of the meeting Dr. Chai made available several free copies of his book

Shattered by the Wars which tells the story of what happened to his family during WW II under Japan and during the Korean War. A touching talk pointing out the many differences living under various political systems.

Larry Fargher returned from what seemed like several months in Hawaii. What did he do while there? From his balcony on the beach he observed 101 whales and was fined appropriately.

Sales of sponsorships and BBQ Bistro tables are off to a good start for the SVBBQ Championships. Miles Barber and Susan Lucas reported on the progress and offered their help to anyone that needs to close a sponsorship. Still a ways to go to fill all of the sponsorships and Bistro tables so if you know of possible organizations that could be a sponsor and/or a purchaser of a table, please make the connection.

ELC South Bay will hold two student/parent orientation sessions this week at Mission College. The first session is March 3

rd and the second in one March 5th. The conference is March 11-13 and we will be dark on March 12. Please feel free to attend the opening session on March 11 at Mission College.

This week’s speaker is Jeff Rosen who is the District Attorney for Santa Clara County. Mr. Rosen will be speaking, among other topics, about the activities of the County’s DA’s office. This week is a good opportunity to invite a guest to hear Mr. Rosen speak.

See you all on Thursday.
