The Tech Museum
David Whitman is the executive director of signature programs at The
Tech Museum, including The Tech Awards. He came to Silicon Valley in
2008 to coordinate the museum's mega-exhibition "Leonardo, 500 Years
into the Future," in collaboration with the Uffizi Gallery and the
History of Science Museum in Florence. Like Leonardo 20 generations
ago, Whitman's innate curiosity about people, the natural world, and
the arts has taken him on unexpected journeys.
A near-native Californian, Whitman at times has also called Belgium, Brazil, St. Lucia, and Florida his home.
For 14 years he managed Hertz Concert Hall at his alma mater, U.C. Berkeley, working with many of the greatest performing artists of our time. He was an AFS international exchange student and, for three years, a Peace Corps forester.
In 2000, he traveled with a Florida state cultural delegation to Rio de Janeiro and was actively involved in establishing Art Basel Miami Beach. Whitman has studied painting, music, tribal textiles, and six foreign languages. An independent writer and photographer whose work has appeared in more than 100 publications and exhibitions, David Whitman makes his home on Mt. Hamilton (pop. 35), where he and his basenji never tire of exploring the magnificent surrounding wildlands.
