Last week, Julie Cluff spoke to our club about how to deal with personal loss.  She shared her own story and I found her presentation to be helpful.  If you didn't have the opportunity to attend our meeting, I have attached Bob Ricks recap and the the recorded zoom link below.

Julie offered to sell and autograph her book Miracles in the Darkness for $15.  If you are interested in buying a book, please email me (Pinemtn911@yahoo.com) with your information and the club will bill you.  The deadline is on Wednesday.

This week Jennifer Martin will be our guest speaker and her talk will be on Estate Planning Fails.  Have a wonderful week and I hope to see you on Thursday.

The Greatest Rotary Club in the World: Santa Clara, California
Zoomer Notes: April 22, 2021...Earth Day!
Mike Sellers, President and Zoomster Extraordinaire
Bob Ricks, Ever Humble, Ever Present, Scribbler for the Leader

Zoomesters in attendance:  We topped the charts at 32 dedicated Rotarians today. I even passed on the Earth Day event below in order to attend. See if you can recognize any Rotarians below:

It was a close call.

President Mike was surprised that so many members actually used the new Zoom codes to sign in. We still probably lost a few members. Change is tough.

Make a note in your Palm Pilots: Our new Zoom sign in is: 810 9804 6865. The pass code is: 336716. If you use the old codes you will get live Zoom of the Milpitas City Council. Thanks!

Tom Brown led us in the pledge. There was not a dry eye in the house. Due to Tom standing up to pledge and only his belt buckle showing on his Zoom Square no one could tell if he removed his hat. Investigation continues……

President Mike had our inspiration today. He began by remembering his father’s sudden death on this day several years ago and what a shock it was. Many of us can relate to that feeling and the loss of a loved one.  Mike followed with a THANKS to all our members for their calls of support and help during his year as President. He stated he could not have done the job without that help, especially in this unique year of Covid.

Mike finished with three quotes of inspiration, one by Einstein:
        “Learn from Yesterday
         Live Today
         Hope for Tomorrow”

Well said.

PP Steve “Throwback” Rainbolt introduced us to his friend Bassam Musaffar. Bassam has a Bachelors, Graduate and PhD degree from the University of Missouri and is retired from many years at NASA Ames. He is interested in joining our club. Thanks Steve, for bringing your friend to the meeting.

Tim Ford brought his sister Cindy Bailes and as usual, PP Bill Carver, now campaigning in Texas to do it again, and PP Bob Ricks were in attendance. Welcome all.

Lois Gordon is 86! She shared her birthday with her baby brother, 84 years old, Larry Fargher and other family members. Never at a loss for words, Lois stated that it was good to get out into the world again. Happy Birthday!

PP George Delucchi celebrated on April 20. As a reader of WWII books I realize he shares that date with a somewhat infamous German. When I first met George he gave me some wise business advice I still remember and use, “Debits on the left, Credits on the right”. Thanks, George.

PP Rod Stafford is celebrating somewhere today. The word is out that he did not want to show up for Zoom for fear of us singing Happy Birthday to him. And we had Rowell in the background warming up…….

PP Denise Sellers (Gilroy Rotary) has finally secured her credit card back from Sweeney and will celebrate her birthday on April 24 with President Mike. They will both wear Rotary Blue shirts in honor. They stiffed Sweeney on the bill for the shirts.

Weddings;
PP Andy Ratermann and Caren will celebrate 32 years married today. Andy has absolutely no idea what he will do to memorialize that date.

PP Ken (aka Jimmy Fallon) and Dana Rowell will celebrate 27 years married on April 23. I think Ken is going over to Andy’s house to celebrate. Andy indicated he will be at home, but Ken should bring the wine. Congratulations to both couples.

PP Mike Moul is recovering from surgery for a torn meniscus. Members that read this and say, “HUH?”can count themselves lucky. It ain’t fun. Get well Mike.

President Mike has been in touch with both PP Stan Chinchin and PP Larry Fargher. Both are recovering and hopefully on the mend.

Welcome Back:  Look in your email for the invitation and details. An RSVP is required for this live event. Location: Elks Club.

PP BBQ: This will be another Live Event. Some members will be able to see President Mike in person for the first time as president. PP Bob Buchser is preparing another good roast. We may even Debunk President Mike at the same time. Date: June 10.

Mission Grill Fundraiser:  This is a fundraiser for Bracher Elementary School in Santa Clara. It is easy. Just show up at the Mission Grill on May 4 and eat. Tell the restaurant you are there for the Bracher Fundraiser and 20% of your bill goes to the school. Please attend and help out our schools.

Greeter/Inspiration:  Mike Moul coordinates the Greeter Schedule and is now out of commission due to surgery. If you have already been selected for a date please show up. If you are unable to show up, please find a replacement

.
PP Dan Holder, current Club Secretary of State and Local TV personality, introduced our speaker, Julie Cluff:

Julie managed to get our entire club interested and involved. She presented stories from her own life and others on how to deal with grief. The KEY WORD is HOPE. Below are a few slides from her story.

I highly recommend you refer to the link to her presentation on Club Runner if you did not watch it on Zoom. You will be glad you did. Julie has written several well received books on her subject. Email President Mike and he can get you a sign copy of one or all of the books. The club will then bill you.

See you next week!
