If you did not make the meeting this week, you must watch the zoom meeting recording. PP Colleen Noll was our greeter and provided a very inspiring message. I guarantee she did not disappoint us! Read Bob Rick's recap because I think he explained it very well.
Our guest speaker the Honorable Edward Panelli provided an insight look at being a California Supreme Court Justice. His presentation was very informative.
Next week, District Governor Gregg Giusiana will be visiting our club. I hope everyone will attend.

John Mlnarik, Zoom Gatekeeper
Zoomers online: 41. Another strong showing. Thanks! Shoot for more next week!

The Greeting! This was one of the all time best greetings this club has ever experienced. PP Colleen Noll hit all the Ken Rowell (aka Jimmy Fallon) high notes and then more. Seven Rotary Clubs in the area simply surrendered their #1 claims when they heard about Colleen. We are #1! Then Colleen followed with an impassioned inspiration that even had Don Skinner in tears, “Be of Use”. This may take over Miles Barber’s “Lips that touch liquor will never touch mine” as our #1 inspiration……...please watch the video for the entire presentation. New logo shirts to follow.
The pledge was led by Don Skinner with his tears still fresh from Colleen’s inspiration. To his credit he got all the words right.

Tom Crahen was online with us today from Sunnyvale Sunrise as was PPx2 Bill Carver from Lakeway/Lake Travis and your humble scribe PP Bob Ricks.

Watana Heang spent his entire birthday eating cake and taking care of the new baby. Anna Holder took Secretary of State and PP Dan Holder to Santana Row, sans mask, to eat at a restaurant that Dan could not remember the name…..the drinks were probably good. Tim Blum will go around the neighborhood and ask for candy on his birthday. It is a family tradition.
PP Rod Stafford spent the 29th watching Mlnarik’s complete collection of Perry Mason shows from the 60’s and taking notes on how many times Perry insulted the judge. This is 22 years for Rod in TGRCITW after the membership shut down his previous Santa Clara club. Rod is one of the DeLozier Recruits.

Larry Fargher is doing well with his new eyes. Lois also reports that she is now celebrating 7 years with Larry. Congratulations to both, but a special congratulation to Lois for 7 years.

Steps: This is the big weekend! By now Tom Brown has loaded all the shoes into his truck and stored them for the Saturday event. Thanks, Tom.
We still need help for volunteers for Saturday. The demand for shoes this year is off the charts. We have 450 pairs to distribute this weekend but will probably need to do another event, funds allowing. Your board will keep you updated. We start Saturday, October 31 at 8am at the Family Resource Center. Be there! In costume! There will be a Lone Ranger in attendance but the identity will be held in confidence.
Scotch Tasting: Stay tuned. Stella will be contacting current Red Badgers and new Blue Badgers to help with this event now scheduled for St. Patrick’s Day in 2021.
District Governor Visit is November 5. Please put on your best Zoom face for this event.
Proud Grandparents:

CJ and Harbeen Grewal only went through 28 days of quarantine to get to Switzerland to be there for the birth of their grandchild. Congratulations to all! CJ will be able to do a program for the club titled, “How I killed time in Quarantine for 28 days”. Andy is already working on him.
Rebuild was a resounding Success!

DGIW Jan-Eric Nordmo. Calling formation: Walt Marwitz

As promised Phil Auger showed up in the same shirt he wore the last time…..note the hole in the sleeve from leaning on the ladder. Plus, Walt Marwitz (was in Vietnam) took over leading the troops in hygiene, setting up work parties and avoiding all manual labor…..after all, he was an officer.
Bill Kelly reported that the volunteers really did a great job along with their recruited kids, family members and Jan-Eric’s Boy Scout Troop. The house now looks fantastic and the owner is ecstatic. Another Santa Clara Rotary project in the memory bank. Thanks to all that participated. (Phil’s shirt will be washed, ironed, but never patched, and stored…...ready for the next project.)
Guest Speaker:

Anton Morec introduced our Guest Speaker for today: Edward A. Panelli, retired Associate Justice of the California Supreme Court.
Judge Panelli is a true Santa Clara native…...born here and graduated from Santa Clara schools, University of Santa Clara undergrad and Law School in 1955.
His parents were from Italy and moved here to enjoy life in America. When the Judge was 6 months old they decided to return to Italy because of the Great Depression. By the time they decided to leave Italy again due to Mussolini’s rise to power Mr. Panelli was only speaking Italian. He said the local teachers did a great job getting him fluent in English and through the Santa Clara School system.
Judge Panelli had a long legal career in the area…….Superior Court Judge in 1972, Court of Appeals Judge in 1983 and Supreme Court Judge from 1985 to 1994. His 92 year old mother was able to witness him being sworn in to the Supreme Court in 1985 as the 100th judge and could only say, “This is America!” Both his parents had always stressed the importance of education and she lived to see the results.
The judge had some fascinating stories and insights on the legal system and answered some member questions about the current U.S. Supreme Court battle over Amy Coney Barrett. Please check out the online video for the full presentation. I think I noticed EZ Perez taking notes. (Colleen’s opening inspiration is worth the time alone).
See you next week! The District Governor will be here!
