This week DG Gregg Giusiana was our guest speaker.  Your board had a pre-meeting with the DG and the meeting went very well.  Please read Bob's recap and watch the zoom recording.  Next week Barney Callaghan from the Rotary Club of Limerick, Ireland will be our guest speaker.  Hopefully you can join us.

Special Note:  Last week’s greeting and Inspiration by PP Colleen Noll is now on uTube and can be sent to friends and neighbors as well as any member of RI. It will really pep up anyone down and out due to Covid stress.

Plus, there is a photo at the end of this brilliant bulletin that will surprise readers big time …..complements of PP Rod “Hang Em High” Stafford. It is not fair to scroll ahead.

Bill tried to match Colleen’s emotional inspiration from last week and discovered a quote from a previous RI President, “Rotary takes ordinary people and gives them extraordinary ways to serve.”  This has been especially true in this pandemic year for all of Rotary and TGRCITW serving the people of Santa Clara. Let’s keep it up!

The pledge:  Dr. Kemp did a great job. She only had to do it one time and all members seemed to follow her lead. Our no kneel record is in place.

ADG Mitty Chang (above) was online as a guest and to introduce our speaker. Mitty is busy cleaning up the ADG Joe Sweeney administration after Joe escaped to Arizona. We also had Art Testani, from the San Juan Bautista Club visiting. He could probably be online trying to track down Sweeney’s new address so he can retrieve their club bell. Stay tuned. We now have evidence of three missing bells. Sweeney claims plausible denial. Now we will have to see if the Prescott Club starts a Stammtisch Table as well.

Heath was not onboard today to celebrate. He was probably on diaper duty again. Gerry Kosko was also missing in action…...and no, he cannot get you a free membership to his dad’s Costco empire.

PP Mike Moul will be celebrating in style with a backyard BBQ on November 7. Masks are required so you can slip in if you are in Mike’s neighborhood. See PDG Gary Citti for directions.

Congrats also go to Mario and Carolyn Bouza for 34 years of marriage and PP DGIW Jan-Eric and Nicola Nordmo for 18 years on November 9.

Skinner was silent today as he had no one to report. This is a good thing. All is peaceful for now in Santa Clara Rotary.
President Mike announced that Hung Wei has been selected as our next District Governor for 2023-2024. She is from the Cupertino Club. He also announced that our next RI President 2022-2023 will be:
If anyone sees Stan Chinchin please ensure he gets the word. He will be so proud. Congratulations to both women.

Steps for Success: We did it again!

Thanks go to team leaders Dan Winter and PP Colleen Noll for assembling another successful Steps for Success last Saturday. Dan reported it was an active day from 8:30 am start to 2:30 pm finish. We partnered with the Family Resource Center this year and they were a valuable assistance. Steve Neese, Susy Cortez and Dr. Brenda Carrillo were the go-to people to help us out. Sports Basement was again a major donor in getting us the shoes at a discount. All in all 236 pairs of shoes were distributed with the balance of shoes remaining going to the Family Resource Center.

There is still a need for shoes in the community, so we plan to schedule another effort in February. Details to follow.

ADG Mitty Chang introduced our Guest Speaker, 5170 DG Gregg Giusiana.
DG Gregg is a Gilroy resident, former Chief of Police there and the Gilroy Man of the Year in 2017. He and his wife Chris have three grown children and three grandkids.

DG Gregg met earlier with our board and thanked all for the good organization and service in the community that our club does on a consistent basis. He then made the following points for this year:
We are now down to Pakistan and Afghanistan as the two remaining countries with polio. Rotary HAS made the difference. Africa is polio free!
Above is the simple Vision Statement for RI. District 5170 is fully invested in this vision. 5170 currently has over $1,000,000 in outstanding grants issued and working. Our clubs are busy!
Our areas of focus for RI are above. Note the separate tag for Environment. This will be added to the six above for next year as Rotary sees that as gaining importance more and more each year.
Please note the upcoming events above. The first slide will be virtual events due to Covid. The second slide will be in-Person, hopefully. The third slide will be a Zoom presentation to our area by RI President Holger Knaack from Germany at 9 am in the morning on December 9, 2020. Please note these on your calendar.

One note from DG Gregg is to GET THE WORD OUT ABOUT ROTARY. We do a lot of good in the world and if the word really got out about what we do the world would want to join Rotary. Where Rotary exists the world gets better.
The DG closed with a story about Malcolm. He was a member that had leukemia and needed help. The club could not find a match for him so went to Rotary to help. The result? Malcolm survived and is a member still today…..20 years later. This one problem for one member developed into a major effort to help other leukemia victims in the same trouble as Malcolm. ROTARY MADE A DIFFERENCE. DG Gregg was one of the first donors to assist.

The full video of DG Greg’s presentation can be found on Club Runner. Someone needs to be sure Stan Chinchin has a copy.

Lastly, as promised. If you scrolled here early you need to confess and send in your $5.00 fine. You know who you are:
PP Rod “Hang Em High” Stafford had a question……..what happened to Tom Brown’s hat? Did Andy get it to replace one he ruined at the Refresh Santa Clara project? We don’t know but look at this!
Gone! Stay tuned. Rod is on this one.

Next week: Barney Callahan all the way from Limerick Zooming us on the Twisted and Perverse history of Ireland. Andy guarantees some laughs. See you on the Zoomer.
