To all the Moms in Rotary Happy Mother's Day!  I hope you get to enjoy your special day.

Last Thursday, Rusty Gaillard spoke to the club about "Breaking the Code" and having life balance. He can be reached at Rusty@svdreambuilders.com.   If you were unable to attend, the recorded meeting link is below.  I apologize upfront for the technical difficulties I had at the beginning of the meeting.  Colleen finally has some material for my debunking.  Be sure to read Bob Ricks recap because he always provides a good laugh or two.

This week, Brad Mangin who is a freelance photographer will be our guest speaker.  Brad works in the Bay Area with most of our professional sport teams.  It should be a great presentation.

The Greatest Rotary Club in the World: Santa Clara, California

Meeting Amazements and Mumbles: May 6, 2021

Mike Sellers, President and Zoomesiter

Bob Ricks, Foreign Correspondent of the Club, still Humble

Zoomers that could find the botton:  President Mike entertained over 30 Santa Clara Zoomers that could find the button this week. Even Dave Cowan appeared again after losing his button for weeks. Still no PPFAD John Bertolotti but the Zoom committee is closing in to a location. Nick Livak refuses to answer any electronic communications but will respond to telegrams.

We had Dave Cowan lead us in the pledge this week. He caught two members kneeling and that will be addressed at the next board meeting. Both were wearing masks so they may be members of the San Jose Club.

Lou Mariani led us in the shout out and the inspiration. Lou kept it simple, “ Many employers ask their employees, Can you do this? Some say no, some say yes”. Rotary is filled with those that always say “YES”. Well said, Lou.

Bassam Musaffar made his third visit to our club this week. Welcome back! We hope you receive this communication and are able to attend our Welcome Back Meeting at the Elks Club in June.

President Mike checked all his records and came up empty on all three categories. I will try to help him out with the following:

Skinner and Delozier have Willie’s birthday on their Palm Pilots and are disappointed every year that he is not recognized. I vote for Bob Segar.

Our thoughts are with Ana and her family. Her ailing dad is in a coma. Please include Ana in your prayers.

PP Mike Moul was online today but reports he is not yet ready for the Hokey Pokey. Mike is still recovering from his recent knee surgery. This means he gets to use two crutches for the next 4 to 6 weeks. Holder offered him a server job but he had to turn it down.

Keep your thoughts and prayers going for PP Larry Fargher. He needs our support now more than ever. Larry was a master at keeping in touch with all and any member of TGRCITW. Below is a note he sent me a few years ago:

Classic Larry Fargher.

Welcome Back:   President Mike announced the email invitation has been sent once again. If you plan to attend we need your RSVP Immediately. This is necessary as we must plan for food. The cost is still $40 pp and guests are welcome.

PPBBQ:  The meeting will have a 12 o’clock start at the Elks Club. PP Bob Buchser will lead the celebration for our past presidents and PP Colleen Noll will lead the Debunking for our first 100% Zoom President, Mike Sellers. Some of you may want to attend just to meet Mike in person. I took a survey and some members estimate Mike is 5 feet 2 inches tall. Others vote for 6 feet 8 inches. The truth will come out at the PPBBQ, unless he appears by Zoom again.

Lunch Attendance:   As we morph back to LIVE Meetings we will be asking all members to give us an indication as to whether they will attend in person or stay on ZOOM. We need this information to accurately predict our food needs for the meeting.

Book Plus:   On May 15, 300 kids at Scott Lane Elementary will receive 5 books each to own and keep. PE Bill Kelly is leading the effort for our club to support this effort. Please email Bill if you are able to assist the distribution effort at Scott Lane.

Scholarship Interviews:  Mike Moul, Tressa Williams, Thomas Silvas, and Tom Brown assisted President Mike in conducting interviews with local high school kids applying for our scholarships. The committee approved 4 applicants for next year.  All members reported that the quality of the kids we had interviewing was outstanding. Thanks!

Sad News:  Good news, bad news. Pastor Watana Heang has received a promotion but that promotion will take him and his family to Clovis, New Mexico as he assumes the leadership of the Methodist Church there. Congratulations on the move Watana, but we will miss your participation in our club. Hopefully we see you on Zoom. Hide your address from Sweeney in nearby Arizona.

Easy is celebrating!

Granddaughter Liberty Ann was born on April 26. Congratulations to Easy and Cathy! Heath is available for advice if needed. Daughter Hope is already telling jokes.

Guest Speaker:

Our own PP Ken (aka Jimmy Fallon) Rowell introduced today’s guest speaker:

Rusty had a great presentation and made many excellent points about LIFE balance. I highly recommend you watch his video on Club Runner if you missed it. We have also included Rusty’s contact information for any Zoom members that watched live and desire more information from Randy.

Next week: Our speaker will be Brad Mangin, Sports Photographer. He may have a photo of Skinner from his ball playing years. You need to be here!
