I apologize for getting this recap out late. Brad Mangin was our guest speaker and provided a very interesting presentation. Brad is a freelance photographer and has over 35 years of experience photographing local and national sport teams. If you did not see his presentation I highly recommend watching the recorded meeting. The link is below. I have also attached Bob Ricks recap. Unfortunately, I had to delete many of the photographs Bob had in his recap. The file was too big for Clubrunner, so that is another reason why to watch the video. Rotarians on board: We had 31dedicated Rotarians on the Zoom for today’s meeting. Most of them paid attention throughout the entire meeting. The replay of I LOVE LUCY kept a few away that would have normally logged in.
This will be explained later. PP Bob Buchser had the best question of the day.
The pledge: Bill Kelly took on the obligation to lead the pledge. He had most of the club on their feet and standing tall. Only two were seen reading off a cue card.
Roy Truitt led us in the shout out and the Inspiration. Roy applauded Rotarians helping Rotarians, especially in TGRCITW. He said, “That’s what it is all about.”
PP Dan Holder invited Bob Bain to watch today’s presentation. Welcome, Bob!
Sandy Allen welcomed all of us from Hawaii. She could not explain how she got her bus on the Big Island. Sandy wanted to celebrate her birthday by Zooming in to our meeting. Happy Birthday, Sandy! Too bad PP Rowell (aka Jimmy Fallon) was not online today. You missed him singing Happy Birthday to you. Thank you Jimmy!
President Elect Elect Tressa Williams was Zooming also. She is celebrating 12 years with our club. Thanks, Tressa, for all you do for this club…..and you do it in RED!
Ana Vargas-Smith lost her Dad last week. Our prayers and thoughts go out to Ana and her family at this difficult time.
Announcement! Tressa needs some shoes! Tressa Williams’ sorority is sponsoring an effort to get shoes into the hands of needy people. The effort is called SHOE SOME LOVE. She is asking anyone in the club that has lightly used shoes in good shape to please donate to her for this cause. You can contact Tressa to drop them off or simply bring them to our live meeting on May 20. Tressa will be there and can accept them at that time. Walt has 15 pairs of combat boots that someone can probably use.
Welcome Back! May 20 is around the corner. $40pp. This is an evening event. Bring a guest. So far we have 39 RSVP’s with more expected. We definitely need a head count for this meeting to plan the food. The meeting portion will be short as it will be time for fellowship after a long down time.
Alert: The survey responses are coming in. So far the results show that the new members think President Mike is around 5 feet 6 inches tall. The old members think he is 6 feet 7 inches tall. Attend the meeting on May 20 and you may get to see Mike in person. I have also had some questions about the legend that he helped apprehend Bonnie and Clyde. You can ask Mike at the meeting.
PPBBQ: This meeting will be at the Elks Club on Martin Avenue. For newer people unfamiliar with the Elks all you do is go to the east side of the building and walk around back to the outdoor patio. The event will start at 12 Noon sharp with fellowship. PP Bob Buchser will then lead the PP portion and PP Colleen Noll will lead the debunking of President Mike. Ted Keech will be in full uniform to lead the honor guard. Be prepared for a fun, in person meeting. Hopefully Colleen will wear her new cowboy boots. She recently discovered that calf roping is part of the required agenda for all Texas fifth graders.
Lunch Attendance: Expect to receive a phone call from a board member soon. We need to get a good feel for the number of members that plan to attend the live meetings and the number that want to continue to Zoom. This is needed to properly plan our meal count.
June 17, 2021: Put this date on your Palm Pilots. PPFAD John Bertolotti has once again agreed to have a club meeting at his car warehouse. If you have never attended one of these you will be blown away by the fantastic car collection on display. President Mike will have more details as the date approaches. This is a guaranteed must attend meeting.
Book Plus: May 15 is the date. If you receive this prior to May 15 please call Bill Kelly if you can assist at Scott Lane School from 12-4. He needs 5 to help and only has 4 volunteers to date.
Board Meeting: Our club’s 85th anniversary is August 10. Ed Bouwhuis is putting together the history of the club. He will be reaching out to members for additional history items or antidotes. It is times like this when you wish someone had taken a picture of Speedo Man during Lou Ann’s year. If you have anything you want in the history please contact Ed.
The board approved a $1500 donation to Cystic Fibrosis this year. There is a yearly golf tourney that goes along with this annual fund raiser. Ted Keech is the coordinator if you are interested.
We also donated $250 to Grad Night for Wilcox High School along with the previous $250 we had donated to Santa Clara High.
Tim Ford updated the board on this year’s ELC. Most of the event will be by Zoom, but they are trying to get one day when all can meet in person.

The third shot down is of Derek Jeter. Your Humble Scribe was the GM of a dealership in Kalamazoo, Michigan when a young kid got drafted out of Kalamazoo HS to play for the Yankees. He visited our store and purchased a Lincoln for his parents and a Red Mitsubishi 3000 for himself. My Sales Manager came to my office to see if I wanted to meet this 18 year old kid. I passed. Thought I would never hear about him after he left town……..that was my missed intro to Derek Jeter. Seems he did okay in baseball. At least I know Don Skinner.
The best question of the day came from PP Bob Buchser. After Brad had regaled us all with photos from every sports event known to man, except swimming, all Bob wanted to know about was, “Did you ever shoot a Swimsuit edition for Sports Illustrated?” Bob still remembers confiscating the above SI Swim Edition #1 in 1964 from a studious John Bertolotti. It was too audacious for high school students to view. (Bob still has this magazine in his archives).
