Last week we had Susan Stasi from Rose Academies talk about her ongoing project in Uganda.  She had three of her directors in Uganda log on to our meeting even though there was an eleven hour time difference.  We had some technical difficulties but the presentation was very interesting.  Please read Bob Ricks recap and watch the recorded meeting.  Be sure to watch the entire video.  There was a good question and answer segment after our meeting.  The recap and video link have been attached.

Have a great week and see you on Thursday.  Our guest speaker will be Venture Capitalist Jennifer Vancini from Mighty Capital.

Mike Sellers
President 2020-2021
Rotary Club of Santa Clara
The Greatest Rotary Club in the World: Santa Clara, California
Zoom Recap: March 4, 2021
Mike Sellers: President and Leader of the Zoomers
Bob Ricks: Still Humble, still Scribing
Tressa Williams: The real Power behind the Zoom

Zoom Attendance:  We had 34 dedicated Rotarians in the Zoom today. Our target is 40+.

Our pledge was led by PP Phil Auger. No kneeling but a few sitters.

Our shout out and Inspiration was led by Ana Vargas-Smith. Ana included a quote from Margaret Mead, “ Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, concerned citizens can change the world. Indeed, it is the only thing that ever has. “. Well said, then and now. Thanks, Ana.
We had zero visiting Rotarians or Guests on the Zoom today.
PP Phil (Mumbles) Auger will be celebrating on March 6…...fondly known as ALAMO DAY to all Texans everywhere. Phil will be wearing the Auger family birthday hat (shown above) as he roams around the Bay Area celebrating.

The Auger family hat was secreted out of the Louvre basement from Napoleon’s secret stash by Pepe Marcel Philippe Auger III and sailed to the United States in 1822 where it is now passed down to generations of Auger’s. It can only be worn on birthdays. Congratulations Phil!

Phil let us know that Barbara will be selecting the venues for celebrating both her March 5 birthday and Phil’s March 6 birthday this weekend. Look for the hat! Phil may be heading your way. He prefers his Guinness warm.

PP Ken Rowell (aka Jimmy Fallon) is celebrating 30 years in TGRCITW. Outstanding, Ken! Thanks for all the contributions through the years…..especially keeping the Keech name alive with each and every introduction. Ted Keech appreciates the thought.

Skinner is back! Warren Buffett can now breathe easy. Don reported that he did have a heart attack three weeks ago and required 3 stints. He is now working himself back to health. Don much appreciated all the calls, cards and emails from our club members. He was overwhelmed with the caring from our group. Welcome back, Don!

President Mike wanted all of us to know that a great Santa Clara citizen had passed away on February 27. Don Callejon contributed much to the success of the city and to its schools. Mike is a good friend of the family. Don will be missed.

Steps:  This is fast approaching. Dan still needs a few more volunteers to help out. Please contact him asap.

Foundation Meeting:  The meeting is scheduled for March 16. Emails will be arriving soon with details.

Club Board Meeting:  The next board meeting is March 10. All members are invited to attend all board meetings whether or not they are members of the board. You just need to let President Mike know you want to attend.

Ken Rowell (aka Jimmy Fallon) introduced our Guest Speaker by thanking Carol Buchser for setting it up. It is much appreciated.

Susan is a Graduate of Santa Clara University Magna Cum Laude and now dedicates her life to helping the undereducated in Uganda. She started her presentation with the thought that the Rose Academy saves lives by sharing knowledge. She was here to brief us on the work done by the Academy with impoverished people in Uganda.

Susan was joined in her presentation by three key members of her organization:
All of these Directors were on the Zoom live with us from Uganda…….11 hours difference from our time. Each was able to brief us on their responsibilities with the Rose Academy and their goals for the future. The work they do and the accomplishments they reach were truly inspiring.
You missed a great presentation regarding what the Rose Academy does if you missed this Zoom. As usual, President Mike has placed the entire video on Club Runner for you to view. It was truly inspiring.

Next Week:  Andy has Venture Capitalist Jennifer Vancini from Mighty Capital set up to speak to our club.  It is sure to be interesting.  See you then! Pass the word to any Non Zoomer Rotarians……...Log In!
