If you missed last weeks meeting, you really missed a good one.  Jennifer Martin is an estate planning attorney and she provided several examples of celebrities that failed to properly plan for after their death.  Proper estate planning can save your loved ones thousands of dollars or you can always give your estate to the government.  I was very surprised by the lack of action these celebrities took. Please watch our recorded meeting and the link is below.  This might be a good time to dust off your Will/Trust and make sure they are current.  I have also attached Bob Ricks recap.  He has a great photo of one of our active members in his recap.

This week Rusty Gaillard will be our guest speaker.  The topic will be Live your best life now.

Hope to see you on Thursday.

Mike Sellers

The Pledge!
Michael Beck led us ably in the Pledge of Allegiance. At the end he toasted us with his wine glass.

The Shout Out and Inspiration:

Our own PP, Road Runner, Covid Evader Artist and Off-Road Warrior, Anton Morec, led us in the Shout Out and Inspiration. We were not clear as to his current location as Dr. Fauci is looking for him.

Anton inspired us with The 11 Keys to a Happier Life:
  1. Giving
  2. Relationships
  3. Exercise
  4. Awareness
  5. Try new things
  6. Have goals
  7. Resilience
  8. Emotion
  9. Acceptance as to who you are
  10. Live with Meaning
  11. Never Regret anything that made you laugh

Well done Anton. It would have made a great powerpoint also.

Bassam Musaffar, last week’s guest of PP Steve Rainbolt, was back with us again. Welcome back, Bassam!

Barbara Dolbec was also online, this week without Phil Auger. This was a mystery as we all suspected that Phil Auger could not use ZOOM, but somehow Phil managed to get on from a different location than Barbara. Next technology for Phil: Email!

Your Humble Scribe was on the road driving back to Texas during the actual meeting, but our president managed to get me the video. This was good as the presentation by our Guest Speaker was excellent.

THE BIG FREEZE!
At this point in the meeting President Mike just disappeared. POOF! Thankfully PP Andy Ratermann was able to ZOOM UP and say confidently that “I can handle this”..........again thankfully, President Mike’s computer unfroze at that moment and the meeting was back on.

This is how you dress for formal occasions after 48 years in Santa Clara Rotary. PP Phil Auger went all out to celebrate with friends. The lederhosen pants are actually cut off corduroy jeans, the suspenders clip on, the mask is made from a French tablecloth and the socks are black, he is going commando, but other than that you have a great recreation of a French guy pretending to be a German guy…….just as all his relatives tried in 1940.

In all seriousness, Congratulations to PP Phil Auger for 48 productive years with the Rotary Club of Santa Clara. If there is a project to complete or event to attend, you can count on Phil to show up and work hard.

PP Mike Moul is home recuperating from his meniscus surgery. President Mike talked to him a few days ago. Mike Moul reported the surgery went well and now it is only a few weeks on crutches to get well. He even managed to swipe a few masks from the hospital…...enough to get him to 2025.

Welcome Back:  May 20. Timing: Late afternoon event. You will receive an additional email this week to RSVP for the May 20 LIVE event at the Elks Club. If you have already submitted your RSVP you do not need to do it again. Guests and spouses are highly encouraged. The cost will be $40 pp. There is a no host bar. No one will ask if you had the nerve not to get a Covid shot…….just wear a bag over your head so as to not infect others.

PPBBQ:  June 10 at the Elks. This will be an event for the ages. First you get PP Bob “needs no microphone” Buchser presiding over the comments for all the PP in attendance. He promises to have some new jokes for us.

Secondly you get PP Colleen Noll, with a new Texas swagger, handling the Debunking of our current President Mike Sellers. Folks, strap on your mask and show up! This one is LIVE!

Fundraiser on May 4:   Be sure to show up at Mission Grill on Tuesday, May 4. Once there all you have to do is eat. Just eat. If you pay your bill 20% of
the total will go to help Bratcher school. President Mike reports he is getting great feedback on this event. Don’t miss out. Remember: All you have to do is eat!

Book Plus: PE Bill Kelly briefed us on Book Plus. Our board has already donated $1000 to this project. Bill and Tim Ford recently attended a briefing on Book Plus at Stanford on HOW TO IMPROVE CHILD LITERACY. The bottom line was…….get books into the hands of kids…..their own books that they can own and call their own. Our donation will assist to fund 5 new books to every student at Scott Lane Elementary. These books will be chosen by the kids themselves.

PE Bill Kelly will be sending out an email soon asking for assistance on May 15 to go to Scott Lane school to help hand out the books. Watch your email.

Next Week:  Our speaker will be Rusty Gaillard. His topic will be LIVE YOUR BEST LIFE NOW.

TED MOORHEAD! Welcome back! President Mike wanted to send a special greeting to Ted for joining our Zoom crowd.

EZ Perez needed to beef up his legal knowledge without paying any tuition so he persuaded Andy to get Jennifer Martin to speak. EZ did her introduction himself. He sounded impressed as he got to page three of her legal awards.

Jennifer has a BA in Math from Berkeley and a Law Degree from Rutgers. Her credentials and experience in the field of Estate Planning are impressive. Her main topic today was:

Jennifer stated at the onset that she uses these true examples of mistakes that celebrities had made in their personal estate plans as a way to point out thought starters for our Rotary audience.

Her presentation was outstanding and left many members with a call to action as to regarding their own estates.

Below are the slides of some of the celebrities she covered.  I highly recommend that all of today’s NON ZOOMERS go to Club Runner and watch the full video. EZ has now watched it three times and sent a copy to Nick Livak. A few people you may have heard of made some major errors in their estate planning:

You would have thought these people had the resources to get good legal advice and their estate. They did have the resources but the mistakes they made will astound you.

See you next week!

Just in case you missed the first picture. He has two:
