Meeting Highlights

Inspiration: This week’s inspiration was led by PP Lorenzo Rios. Lorenzo spoke about all the good things Rotary does for people and asked the club to pray for the people in Ukraine. They are suffering from the injustice by Russia. Thanks Lorenzo for a heartfelt inspiration and reflection.
Birthdays: Kim Tucker (Tom Brown’s wife) celebrated her birthday on May 12th, Sandy Allen celebrated on May 13th, and Frank Walsh celebrated on May 14th. I hope everyone enjoyed their birthday.
Wedding Anniversaries:
Ana Vargas-Smith and Smitty celebrated 34 years on May 14th. Congratulations!
Club Anniversaries:
PE Tressa Williams celebrated 13 years on May 14th.
Upcoming events:
Past President BBQ is scheduled for May 19th. The event will be coordinated by PE Tressa Williams. PP Bob Buchser agreed to be the MC and the event will be at the American Legion Hall. All members are encouraged to attend and support the Past Presidents.

Our guest speaker was John Crump. He is the President and Director of the Silicon Valley Tech Academy, a non-profit STEM program partnering with San Jose State University and the Santa Clara County Office of Education. John has a bachelor’s degrees in Journalism and in History. He co-authored two books on World War II topics, Hiroshima-Bridge to Forgiveness and Thunderbolts of the Hell Hawks.
John was able to interview Archie Maltbie about his remarkable experiences in WWII before he died. Archie was a pilot and flew over 90 missions. John had a PowerPoint that chronology documented his experiences including jumping out of his airplane before it exploded, surviving enemy territory, getting married, and so much more. There are so many heroes that have fought for our freedom, and it was nice to hear the story of Archie Maltbie.
I will be on vacation and will miss the next two meetings. PE Tressa Williams will run the next two meetings during my absence.
