Dear Colleen Noll, Good afternoon, Attached you will find a recap of our meeting today, March 17, 2022. We enjoyed a wonderful St. Patrick's Day celebration, with a customary corned beef and cabbage lunch. The attached meeting recap provides a meeting summary and lists some important upcoming dates. We are going to be DARK next Thursday and not meet at the American Legion Hall. Next week we will convene for the President's dinner cruise on Saturday March 26th. President-elect Tressa Williams will provide updates during the next week regarding the cruise. Our speaker today was Irish historian, Dr. Ursula, Callaghan, who joined us from Limerick, Ireland. IMPORTANT NOTE: We’re DARK next week and not meeting on Thursday, March 24, due to the President’s Dinner Cruise on Saturday March 26th. We wont be meeting Thursday, but we have an exciting outing next week on the Dinner Cruise.
It was a Happy Saint Patrick’s Day today as we enjoyed a corned beef and cabbage lunch, with the option of an Irish coffee for those so inclined. We listened to a few, inspiring Irish proverbs and were treated to a guest presenter from Limerick, Ireland. It was a good turnout at the American Legion Hall, and a fun meeting.
Meeting Highlights
Pledge: This week, Rotarian and legendary golfer, Rod Stafford, led the club in the pledge. Thanks, Rod.
Inspiration: This week, I was honored to lead the inspiration. I cited my experiences growing up in an Irish family and the inspirational proverbs and blessings I heard over the years. The Irish culture has provided many short quotes and quips that provide a different perspective on various themes in life. I expressed a few, and then provided a final message:
“May your thoughts be as glad as the shamrocks. May your heart be as light as a song, may each day bring you bright, happy hours that stay with you all year long.” — Irish Proverb
Birthdays: Lou Ann Alexander enjoyed her birthday on March 13. She enjoyed her birthday by celebrating with her family. Happy Birthday, Lou Ann!
Upcoming events:
President’s Dinner Cruise, March 26, 2022.
Area 5170 District Conference, scheduled for April 22, 23, and 24 at the Blackhawk Museum and San Ramon Marriott. We are looking for volunteers to work a short 3-hour shift at the House of Friendship display booth. Please contact President Kelly to sign up. Meal charges for the conference are provided for by the club for our volunteers. More information is available at the conference website.
Bocce Ball evening social event at Campo di Bocce in Lost Gatos. We’ll be Dark for the lunch meeting as we attend the fun evening event on April 21, 2022.
JW House event each second Tuesday of the month. Currently, the June 10 date needs filling. Contact Tom Brown to help with this impactful club service program.
The American Cancer Society is holding its annual Relay for Life on April 30 from 10 am to 10 pm. Tom Brown is leading the fundraising event and is looking for volunteers to help on that day. Contact Tom Brown for more information and to see how you can help.
President’s Report:
President-elect Tressa Williams advises that we have met our attendance goal for the upcoming President’s Dinner Cruise, scheduled for March 26. She advises that there is still room for a few additional guests.
The evening begins with a very-fun bus ride aboard a fabulous Royal Coach bus, as we head up to Alameda for our cruise.

The Rotary Club of Santa Clara participated at the I Rotary Women’s International Day event in San Jose on March 13 from 4:00 – 6:30 pm at the Rotary Summit Center in San Jose. Club International Director Harbir Bhatia led the effort to highlight Project Hope, which helps empower women in Pakistan to obtain the skills necessary to lead independent and fulfilling lives. It was an inspiring event for those in attendance and promises to be an annual event.
Last week, the hat was passed to help the victims of the war in Ukraine. The club board approved up to $1,000 in matching funds to help increase the total donation. International Director Harbir Bhatia is working with international organizations, including Rotary, and United Sikhs, a UN affiliated non-profit organization that works internationally to provide disaster relief and humanitarian aid. The club raised a total of $4,000 to help in the humanitarian relief effort. Thanks, Harbir for leading this effort!
