Dear Colleen Noll, Good morning, Attached is a recap of our meeting yesterday, December 2nd, 2021. We enjoyed showing a video of our Christmas for Kids event, scheduled for next Thursday, December 9th from 4-9:30 pm. An all-star cast performed in this video, which was produced by Colleen, Ana, and their team. Remember to sign up to participate in the wrapping party next Tuesday evening and the C4K event on Thursday. Thanks, Bob Buchser, for being Santa that day. Just to remind everyone, we're dark next week as we help with the C4K event, and the following week as we attend the Holiday party on December 16h. After our two-week Thanksgiving break, we once again joined together at the American Legion Hall for lunch. In addition to a terrific speaker, we reviewed the busy December calendar of club activities. We enjoyed a short speech from Bassam Musaffar, our newest Red-badger, who presented his bio to the club. At the end of the meeting, we were able to see the Christmas for Kids advertising video that is currenetly shown on our social media channels, starring your Rotary club members. Thanks, Colleen and Ana for putting together this academy award worthy video!
Meeting Highlights
Pledge: This week, the Pledge was led by Past President, Jan Eric Nordmo, who gave quite detailed instructions that included those for uniformed, non-uniformed, and other personnel. Thanks, Jan Eric for your enthusiastic pledge.
Inspiration: This week, our inspiration was provided by Mike Beck, who admittedly shortened it at the direction of Ted Keech. Mike used a quote from Theodore Roosevelt, “Believe you can and you're halfway there.” Concise and effectively presented, Mike. Thanks! Gotta admit that bringing Ted into an inspiration always garners attention from the crowd. Nice touch.
Birthdays this week: Dave Cowan celebrated his birthday during our Thanksgiving break, on November 21. Happy Birthday, Dave.
We Care: No new reports from Don Skinner this week.
Anniversaries: Kelly and Cindy Carr celebrated their anniversary on November 21, while Tim and Julie Ford will celebrate their special day Fdiday, December 3rd. Happy Anniversary!
Rotary Anniversaries: Several Rotarians were noted today for celebrating one of the most important dates in one’s lifetime, that of joining the Rotary Club of Santa Clara. Those celebrating include Dan Winter - November 30th; John - Bertolotti December 1st; Tony Avelar – December 3rd; and Heath Hanich, also December 3rd. Happy Rotary Anniversary to all!
Upcoming events:
“Christmas for Kid”s (C4K) is scheduled for the afternoon and evening of Thursday December 9, 2021. We will be dark for the meeting that day to help support the event, which will be held behind Wilson School at the Family Resource Center.
Immediately following C4K on December 9th is our “Merry Lil Christmas” fundraiser event, also scheduled at the Family Resource Center.
Our Holiday Party is scheduled for Thursday December 16th at the Marriott Delta Hotel in Santa Clara. Please RSVP to the Evite by today.
President’s Report:
Our upcoming Christmas for Kids (C4K) event is scheduled for Thursday December 9th during the afternoon and evening. Colleen Noll is leading the effort on this youth program. Colleen recently reported that Kaiser Permanente contributed $5,000 to this program this year. To prepare for the C4K event, a wrapping party will be held next Tuesday evening December 7th at the Montessori School on Main Street in Milpitas. This is a fun event as we wrap and organize the gifts that will be distributed on the 9th. Please sign up to participate in these events next week.
Our annual Holiday party is scheduled for Thursday December 16, our last meeting of the calendar year, at the Marriott Delta Hotel. This hotel is the former Biltmore Hotel and was recently renovated when purchased by Marriott. The cost of the ticket this year is set at $95 per person. An Evite was sent via email. Please RSVP to the Evite today. Entertainment will be provided by Sound Judgement, a Barbershop Quartet. During our program, our new President-elect Nominee will be announced. Please join us for a fun time as we celebrate Rotary and our contributions to our community.
The Firehouse Run is scheduled for December 5-12, with proceeds from the event go to the local Schools Foundation. You may recall that we partnered with the Schools Foundation to pay for the shoes that we distributed at the October 29th Steps for Success event. Please indicate that your donation is for the Rotary team if possible. Your support would be appreciated for the Schools Foundation and the work they perform in our community.
It was nice to hear from our newest Red-badger, Bassam Musaffar, as he provided us a glimpse into his background, family, and his personal interests. Bassam gave us his bio in a 5-minute speech, which was well-received by the club. An accomplished soccer player, engineer, and family man, Bassam’s has all the tools necessary to add great value to our club and community. Thanks, Bassam, for a wonderful speech, and for your contributions to our club and Rotary.
