Club upates and more
Last week's Meeting
This last week "Solar Decathlon" by Sean Irwin, Sean provided the club with a summary of his involvement with the Santa Clara University's efforts to bring California ecologically responsible design in housing to an international competition held in Washington DC this past fall. Congrats to the students of SCU and those supporting their efforts which gained 3rd place in the competition, and will soon be featured in an upcoming 60 Minutes (CBS) broadcast.
Club Updates
This week's meeting, hear first hand what the ELC and this letter is all about in a presentation by Steve Rainbolt featuring some of our own students that we recently sponsored:
Greetings Arley, Bill and Bill,
Please accept our heartfelt thanks and deep appreciation for all you and your Leadership Team did for the 48 students during the recent Enterprise Leadership Conference in Asilomar. What a wonderful way for each of you to extend your knowledge and experience with so many impressionable young people. You have indeed made lasting impressions on our future leaders.
Personally, our son, Austin, came back with such enthusiam, a new outlook and understanding of business, new friends and a deep level of respect for the adult leadership who would give of their time and money to invest in several days with young people. He spoke of the great seminars and stories shared by many executives, team group leaders and their fun way of guiding his team throughout the several days and even surprised to receive the large bag of snacks and drinks. He understands the cost of meals and again was surprised a group like yours would provide an all expense-paid retreat.
As parents who have often participated in encouraging our children and other students, we were so touched by your many gifts of generosity and want you all to know that your touch of 48 lives have been multiplied by hundreds!
Not only have you given young people a taste for "Show Me The Money" but how they can, in return, share a portion of their proceeds with others ... as each of you have done by this Retreat.
Thank you for all you've done and will continue to do in the lives of others. We look forward to hearing more great news about the Rotary Club as Austin's team will be presenting their Second Place Team Business Plan later this month.

All members are committed to two tickets, if you cannot use your tickets, please feel free to give them family or friends or donate them back to the club and we will see that some worthy souls get to use them. Also, June 3, it is time to visit with the Past Presidents at the Elk's Lodge in Santa Clara for our annual BBQ. Mister Bob Gustke will have more details. This is a great chance to the newer members to connect with the "Founding Fathers" of our club and see a little afternoon delight. in the form of beer and tasty BBQ.
Final comment
The District Celebration was this past weekend in Monterey, sixteen members and guests of Rotary Club of Santa Clara attended. We are all treated to a lovely Rotary Chicken dinner on Friday and enjoyed the presentation by Jean Michele Cousteau and the sounds of ABBA tribute band Waterloo. Unfortunately Phil Auger and Barbara went to the wrong hotel and were forced to enjoy the event in the bar. The next night was even more spectacular with the President's march, more wonderful speakers and even better entertainment. Phil Auger however could not get in because he failed to register, but the quick thinking Auger created his own badge, crashed the event and enjoyed beverage and food at the pre-event Event and the retired to the bar while we all were in the evening meeting/event. Clearly Phil has challenged Bertolotti for his RIM position and dare we say has superseded John and should be installed as District Governor for RIM.
Not sure how are golfing foursome did but we are sure to hear those stories soon enough.
Upcoming is the District Assembly to be held May 15th (Saturday) 8 AM to 1:30 PM at DeAnza College, get this day on your calendar. The club picks up the fees if you sign up by May 8 so let us know you intend on coming (send me an e-mail janeric@offthewallsoccer.com ). This is the first time this event has been in our area in a long time, we should seek to have at least 15 members in attendance.
