Fellow Rotarians,
I enjoyed seeing all of you who came to the holiday dinner last week. You have all worked so hard this year and it was wonderful to have an evening to relax with Rotary friends and enjoy the holidays. We are at our halfway point of this Rotary year and we have already accomplished many wonderful things. If you haven’t seen it yet, take a look at this fantastic video made by Lexus of our Christmas for Kids: http://youtu.be/pkJHHworUXQ . It is such a joy to see the smiles on the children’s faces!
As I prepare to celebrate Christmas, I think about how important my family and friends are to me. This time of year, I think back to where I was 10 years ago. At that time my daughter Claire was 6 months old. She was terribly sick at that time and spent over 8 days in the hospital battling pneumonia and the flu. This was many months before she was finally diagnosed with Cystic Fibrosis. On that Christmas day in the hospital, her very first Christmas, she was so sick she almost died. I remember holding her the entire day and praying that I would not lose her. In those terrifying days, it became very clear to me what was important. These last few weeks, I have had the joy of watching her dance on stage in the Ballet San Jose Nutcracker, happy and healthy. For me, this is the best Christmas gift of all.
Hold your loved ones tight this holiday season and enjoy the true gifts of the season. May you all have a merry Christmas, joyous holidays, and a Happy New Year!
We will not be meeting the next two weeks, as we will be dark for Christmas and New Years. I look forward to seeing you all in 2014!
