Steve “Big Daddy” Rainbolt is a

Clara with a great deal of enthusiasm.
Our 75th Anniversary Chair and world traveler, Gary Citti, led the
Pledge.
teve Rainbolt gave us a profound tribute to the late Steve Jobs. In Steve Jobs commencement speech at Stanford, he reminded us, “Your time is limited, so don't waste it living someone else's life. Don't be trapped by dogma, which is living with the results of other people's thinking. Don't let the noise of others' opinions drown out your own inner voice. Most important, have the courage to follow your heart and intuition. They somehow already know what you truly want to become. Everything else is secondary.” These are words to live by and great advice for the youth and adults alike of our world. Thank you Steve R. and may God Bless Steve Jobs.
The sign-up sheet for the Avenues of Service began circulating the room. The Avenues of Service is for all of our members including the newest Red Badger to the seasoned Rotarian. The Project Faire and Forums provide a unique perspective on thought provoking ideas to help build our club and will help develop partnerships with other Districts. Our current board of directors, chairs and red badgers are strongly encouraged to attend.
Post Cards were distributed to all members of the club for our Scotch Tasting Event coming on October 22. Please take home and give to a perspective guest for this event.
For those of you with small children, Jan and Nicola will have babysitting in their home (for a small fee) while the adults are enjoying Scotch, Wine and fellowship at Viva’s! Please contact Jan Eric or Nicola to secure your spot.
The shed of Boy Scout Troop 394 in Santa Clara was broken into this past March and $3,200 worth of tents, stoves, cooking gear and walkie-talkies was stolen.
If you are not attending the Horse Races, the Navy Midshipmen are coming to San Jose State on November 19 at 1:00 to face the Spartans. George is arranging a tailgate party prior to the football game and then watch what promises to be a very entertaining Division I game. See George for further details.
Eighteen of us will be attending “Bells Are Ringing” at Pioneer High School on Friday, October 21 and Kenny will be playing the lead! Prior to the event some of us will meet over at the Hay Market on Lincoln Avenue for some dinner before the show.
Stewart presented Mayor Jaime Matthews a check in the amount of $1,000 from the Santa Clara Rotary Foundation to the Wade Brummel Memorial Fund for the City of Santa Clara support of our Annual Rotary Cup!
Not many rotarians were recognized for August events, but we did acknowledge Gary for his birthday, anniversary, rotary anniversary, Citti Golf Tournament and world traveling. Gary got by with a membership into the $50 Club and a $50 sustainer to our Club Foundation. Did you know that the Citti Family Golf Tournament awards $1,000 to RYLA annually? Thank you Gary and thank you Citti Family!
During Miles presentation on the Mission City Community Fund Dinner, Bobbie’s phone rang on two separate occasions initially costing her $100, but the offense was commuted down to $50. No worries Bobbie, a cell phone going off at an inopportune time can happen to anyone!
On October 01, Terry Rose celebrated 39 years of service and Stanley celebrated 45 years of service to Santa Clara Rotary.
Ted Moorhead celebrated the big “50” on the 1st with the family. Kenny spent his birthday on the 4th getting ready for the big performance in Bells Are Ringing. Terry spent his birthday with Betty and his family.
Bud Heinz celebrated 58 years of marriage to Beatrice on the 3rd. Shawn and Jay celebrated 13 years of marriage on the 3rd as well. Shawn is celebrating her “entrepreneurial spirit” with a Ribbon-Cutting ceremony celebrating the opening of San Jose Silicon Valley Tours on Wednesday, October 26. This event takes place at The Historic Fallon House from 4:00-6:00 p.m. Congratulations and best of luck to Shawn!
