To those whom much is given, much more is required.  We bring a great sense of hope to so many and for this our lives become so enriched.

Captain Mike Sellers was recently recognized by the Santa Clara Weekly for the Police Departments commitment to our youth, by providing bicycle helmets (which Santa Clara Rotary financially supported) and educated these same kids by providing tips on preventing bicycle thefts.  For his recognition and getting his picture in the Weekly, Mike became a member of the $50 Club.  After obtaining his Blue Badge status last week, I guess this makes Mike the first member of the 50-50 Club! Mike also inspired us with some quotes by famous folks. Thank you Mike for sharing.

Our own Bob Ricks, has been nominated for the 2012 Time Dealer of the Year Award, which is one of the automobile industry’s most prestigious and highly coveted honors. The recipients are among the nation’s most successful auto dealers who must also demonstrate a long-standing commitment to community service. Bob is one of a select group of dealers (Peninsula Infiniti in Redwood City) from across the country that will be honored at the 95th annual National Automobile Dealers Association in Las Vegas on February 4th.
In addition to this honor, Bob will be awarded $1,000 to go towards his favorite charity and Bob has chosen the Santa Clara Rotary Foundation as the recipient.  Congratulation’s on this honor Bob, thank you for your generosity and welcome to the $50 Club!

The Club voted on the Council on Legislation’s two proposals.  One was to create a new paradigm for Rotary International to attract young adults in the 21-30 age group range.  Rotaract would be the 18-21 age range with a continuance allowed up until graduation. The second proposal is to request the RI Board to consider the approval of a formal statement regarding harassment with the goal of helping to insure a safe environment by seeking to prevent verbal, physical, sexual, or emotional abuse or harassment of any person involved in any Rotary activity.  Both proposals passed by Majority Decision.  It should be noted that the Council on Legislation meets every three years and our vote is only a small measure on the outcome of these and other proposals.

Happy Birthday wishes to Jak, Heath, Anton, Gerry, and Mike M.  Kelly and Will were recognized for their first Wedding Anniversary, Roy and Judy for their 20th and Jan and Nicola for their 9th!  Recognized for Club Anniversaries were Jim (sponsored by Larry) and Rod (sponsored by Pat Kolstad) for 13 years with Santa Clara, but a whole lot more with Santa Clara West and Terry (sponsored by Bob Buchser) for 22 years.
