Today’s meeting was dedicated to the Veteran’s of our Country and especially to the Veterans from Santa Clara Rotary. A War Time Prayer by Eleanor Roosevelt was shared with the club.  Dear Lord, lest I continue my complacent way, help me to remember that somewhere, somehow out there, a man died for me today.  As long as there be war, I then must ask and answer, am I worth dying for?
Colleen Noll has been a Santa Clara Rotarian for a short time but she brings with her experience and enthusiasm to our club.  Colleen has worked in many capacities of Rotary and including serving as President from the Rotary Club of Milpitas.  She recently co-chaired the Scotch Tasting Event along with Jan and she truly made the evening memorable for all who attended.  Colleen was recently recognized as Business Person of the Year in Milpitas.  Colleen shared with us the value in Montessori education.  Thank you Colleen.  Lorenzo led us (in English) in the Pledge.

Good to see Dawn Atwood at the club and Tom Clark, and Tom will start the new member process in earnest this week.

Joe made an announcement about the Thanksgiving Dinner for the needy at St. Clare’s.  The hat was passed and $500 was raised for this event.  Great job Joe!

Bill gave a recap of the E-Waste event held over at Lexus the previous weekend and gave a warm thanks to Carleen, Kelly, Lidia, Dave, Margaret, Joe, Dan, Laurel, Miten, Anton, Jan, Steve R., Andy, Mike S., Don and Joe.

Our Rotary Foundation Chair, Bill gave an inspiring presentation to some very deserving Rotarians and their Paul Harris Awards.  Dick, Ron & Linda were recognized as well was William Green (Linda’s brother) who has helped with Rotary Projects over the last 8-9 years. Please remember, Every Rotarian Every Year.

The Nominating Committee is set and along with President Dan, Anton and Stewart, we will have Kenny, Mike M., Bill, Jan and Miles select the 2 new Directors for the upcoming year and also choose the next president for the 2013-2014 Rotary Year.  Kenny received the most votes from the membership and he once again will Chair the Nominating Committee.

We had the honor of inducting Lindsay Stephens, our newest member into the Rotary Club of Santa Clara.  Lindsay is a practicing Chiropractor in Santa Clara.  Lindsay recently helped out at the Scotch Tasting Event.  When Jan was presenting Lindsay with her certificate, he was hit with a very modest $25 fine for referencing the San Jose Rotary Club.  Welcome Lindsay and thank you Jan!

Stewart informed the club that Mike S. had met all the criteria for new members and presented Mike with his Blue Badge along with a $50 fine.  This incidentally does not qualify Mike for the $50 Club.

In the Jokers Wild, Bill Green picked the winning number for Mike Moul, but Mike did not win the pot.

Andy introduced Dave Barthmuss of General Motors and Dave gave us a very interesting talk on the GM line of automobiles and actually brought with him to the hotel a Cadillac SRX and Chevrolet Volt for Rotarian test-drives.  Thank you, Dave.

This week we will hear from Ted Atlas who will speak about the history of Candlestick Park from the opening in 1960 to the present.
