A Look Back at May 17th, 2012

Nick thought this would earn him a spot in the $50 Club and since there was no mention of Santa Clara Rotary in his video (shirts do not count) Nick became the second member of the $200 Club.  Thank you Nick and congratulations on this recognition.

Andy Ratterman joined our club six years ago and he has been a tireless volunteer ever since.  Andy has been an integral part of our fundraising efforts and is our Commissioner for this years Soccer Advertising Campaign.  So much of the success of this past Rotary Year has been because of Andy’s determination to land outstanding speakers on a weekly basis.  He is the President of the Board of Education and just an outstanding Rotarian.

Andy shared a story with the club with a moral telling us that in spite of obstacles there are always way to help.  Just back from their honeymoon, our clubs first husband & wife Rotarians, Linda & Tom led us in the pledge.

The District Conference at Squaw Creek is coming up on June 01, 02 and 03.  This promises to be an outstanding weekend, so go online and register today!

The last District Cabinet Meeting of this Rotary Year will be on Wednesday June 06 at the DoubleTree Hotel with social beginning at 5:30 and Dinner at 6:30.

Commissioner Andy gave us an update on the Advertising Campaign and the leads are coming in.  Be sure to check in with your Team Captains!

Just back from the International Convention in Thailand was Lorenzo who gave us a recap of his experience.  He attended some District events and enjoyed the sights and hospitality of the country. He spoke also of the amount of poverty throughout Thailand and knows the works of Rotary International are needed throughout the world.  During Stewart’s year, Lorenzo is going to be involved with our club International Projects.  For having such a great experience in Thailand it was recommended by Bob G., that Lorenzo incur a $60 fine for his trip.   Thank you, Lorenzo.

Recognized for 39 years on May 01 in Santa Clara Rotary was Philippe, but he started talking about his wedding anniversary?  Phil was stopped before he would be referred over to Bob.  Steve was recognized for 9 years on May 08.  Tressa celebrated 3 years in Rotary on May 14 and on May 17, Phil celebrated 11 years in our club.

Sandy celebrated her birthday on May 13 with friends and enjoyed Mother’s Day as well, and Frank celebrated his birthday on May 14 with his family.

Our clubs first husband & wife Rotarians tied the knot on May 05 and not wanting to be outdone by the other, both Linda & Tom contributed $250 (we think from their own bank accounts) each to consummate their marriage!  Thank you and congratulations to the Newlyweds.

This bears repeating from last week; Joe, Frank and Gerry have put a lot of effort and an unbelievable amount of time in preparing for the Silicon Valley BBQ Championships and the time is coming where you will be asked to help out!  Please make every effort to give some of your time on June 29 & 30 and help with clean up the morning of July 01.  Thank you in advance!!!

In The Jokers Wild, Linda & Tom got the winning ticket but pulled up a losing card!  This weeks pot should surpass $1,500!!!

Our speaker, Chris Boyd from Kaiser Permanente was introduced by Miles and Chris gave us a very inspiring presentation on his world travels.  In a second consecutive week, Tony’s cell phone reached out and touched us, but this time while Chris was speaking.  Thank you Tony for becoming a Double Sustainer in the $200 Club. Tony is just a phone call away from becoming a Platinum Sponsor in the SVBBQ!

This week we will hear from Christine Baker, the Director of the California Department of Resources and hour host will be Andy.
