The secondary motto of Rotary, “They profit most who serve best” and ‘Service Above Self” can no better be exemplified by they dedication and commitment of the Rotarians from our club who had the experience and privilege of working ELC from March 21-23 at Asilomar!

Ted Moorhead is a Senior Financial Advisor with Merril Lynch and was sponsored by Shawn just three years ago.  Ted is very dedicated to our Club Projects and he is often an anonymous and generous supporter of them.  On July 01, Ted will take over from Bill as our Rotary Foundation Chair.

Ted gave an inspiring Invocation and “World Traveler” Rod Stafford led the club in the Pledge.

There’s an old saying that goes, “There are two kinds of people; those who do the work and those who take the credit.”  At the last District Cabinet meeting our president was recognized for our clubs work in the Amecca Project in Jalisco, Mexico.  We sent computers to a school where the ratio was once 8:1 and is now 2:1 students for every computer!

Our president was recognized with a plaque, club banner and a club pin.  The only issue here was that Past President Jan was president at the time of the project.  So Jan was recognized at the meeting for his efforts and the pin and club banner were awarded to Jan, but the plaque with the current presidents name on it remained with the president.  Thank you Jan and congratulations!

Along with District Governor Arley Marley we had the privilege of inducting and welcoming Bill Kelly (Fire Chief) and John Minarik (Legal Services) into the Rotary Club of Santa Clara as our newest members and we are proud and honored to have these two gentlemen on board with us!

Bill gave an outstanding presentation on the Rotary Foundation and presented some of our members with Paul Harris Society Certificates and Paul Harris pins.  Recognized for Paul Harris Society contributions ($1,000) were, Sandy, Gary, and Ted.  Recognized for receiving their Paul Harris Awards were, Lorenzo, George, Joe and Don.

DG Arley and Bill also recognized Rotarians with Double-Sustainer, Super-Sustainer and Paul Harris Society contributions for the 2011-2012 Rotary Year.  Thank you all for your generous contributions and thank you Bill for a wonderful presentation.

Due to time constraints our Mission City Fund Run and Silicon Valley BBQ Championship Chairs, will give us a more detailed update at the meeting this upcoming week.

Arley C. Marley was recognized for his birthday on March 27 and celebrated by running a half marathon and Nick L. celebrated somewhere on the 22nd for his birthday.

Dr. Laurel and Richard celebrated their Wedding Anniversary on March 24 and Easy and Cathy celebrated 17 years of marriage on March 26.

Our ELC Co-Chair Miles was picked in the Jokers Wild and came up a loser in the draw and growing the pot to $1,100.

ELC Co-Chair Steve Rainbolt gave the club a great PowerPoint Presentation on ELC at Asilomar.  The Rotary Club of Santa Clara continues to be so impressed with the commitment, compassion, and willingness of our members to change and inspire the lives of our young people.

The winning team from Asilomar gave their presentation to our club.  The members could truly see the value in ELC and feel the emotion and impact on what this life-changing event has met to these High School Juniors.  Thank you Steve and Miles and all who contributed to ELC.
