A Look Back at June 7th, 2012
Beautiful weather paved the way to honor the Past Presidents of Santa Clara Rotary.
Mohandis Gandhi once said, “The best way to find yourself, is to lose yourself in the service of others.” The Rotary Club of 2011-2012 is the legacy of the leadership and service our past presidents have provided and today we are a strong, vibrant and very proud organization.
Roy Truitt has been a member of Santa Clara Rotary for nearly eight years and his sponsor was Bob Buchser. He was instrumental in our club moving from Marianis to our current location at the Santa Clara Hilton. During President Bill’s term he brought to our club the Teranova Project where we helped with a prosthesis center in Romania. Again, Santa Clara Rotarians make a difference in the lives of others, everyday!
Roy shared with our members and guest some fabulous Ronald Reagan quotes and then we all joined Roy in the Lords Prayer. We paused for a moment of silence in remembering Andy Cumming, Norma Ferguson (wife of Manny) and Vicki Hong (wife of Gary) who we lost during the Rotary year. They will never be forgotten! Our host Ted led us in the Pledge.
At the District Conference in Squaw Creek, President Dan was privileged to accept The Significant Achievement Award. This is given to one club in the Rotary District for the best project (Christmas for Kids) that addresses the needs of the local community. Linda, Margaret, Bill C. and the committee who have worked on Christmas for Kids were acknowledged and congratulated and congratulations to the Rotary Club of Santa Clara!
For the sake of allowing time for our Host; Wedding Anniversaries, Club Anniversaries and Birthdays were postponed till next week.
The Jokers Wild pot currently stands at $1,803 and could potentially reach $1,900 by the next draw!!!
The Past Presidents Barbeque lived up to its billing and it was great to see old friends and new friends alike. When surrounded by such distinguished members of our community, we again realize how fortunate we are to be Santa Clara Rotarians.Our host Ted provided an outstanding program for our honored Past Presidents. Starting with our most current Past President, Anton (who was not in attendance) to our most Senior Past President, Marty Blair, who received a standing ovation when he was introduced and was quick to quip that he was grateful to be called on because he was ready to go to sleep! Each PP was given a Polo Shirt with the Rotary wheel and Past President embroidered on them. Great job Ted and we are amazed that nobody was insulted!
In addition to taking the annual PP Picture we also took a club picture with all of our PP’s as well. Thank you, Ted for a great program today.
This week we will have Gavin Farnam, Senior General Manager of Westfield Valley Fair. Standing in for President Dan (but in attendance) we have President for the Day, John Bertolloti!!! Do Not Miss!
