A Look Back at June 14, 2012
John gave a very poignant introduction to the members and guest. He paid tribute to the past presidents and to all the good our members do to make our community and our world a better place and then said something about not liking all the administrative and district bullshit or to some degree along those lines.
Terry was introduced as our greeter and welcomed all to the greatest Rotary club in the world. Terry joined our club twenty-three years ago and his sponsor was Bob Buchser. Terry is a retired Police Captain with the Santa Clara Police Department.
Before Terry gave the Invocation he reminded John that we should give the pledge first and Mike B. obliged. Today was the first day back at the hotel for Terry since his diagnosis of cancer back in August and he gave us a heartfelt thank you to all the members who reached out to him and his family when it was needed the most. Very nicely done Captain and you are loved!
John wasted no time in fining Dave Delozier for accepting the presidency more than ten years ago when it was agreed that neither would do it. Talk about holding a grudge.
Stewart announced the Roast & Toast for DG Arley at Saratoga Springs will be held on July 12 and a sign-up sheet was sent around the room. Please contact Stewart if you plan on attending.
Andy gave us an update on the Soccer Advertising and things appear to be moving along well at this point.
Gerry and Frank gave us an update on the Silicon Valley Barbeque Championships and they just continue to impress us with their level of dedication and enthusiasm. The Rotary Club of Santa Clara is calling on each and every member to be part of this extraordinary Community Service project that we can all be proud of.
John brought up two of our newest members to give their Club Bio. Tom Clark (husband of Linda) and John Mlnarik (or as JB says, “John Mmmllllrrrrrrrhhhhhhhh). We continue to be impressed with the lives of our newest members leading up to their membership in Rotary and we are very fortunate to have them as Santa Clara Rotarians.
Bob Gustke had a difficult time of getting the winning number straight in the Joker’s Wild, but picked something else than the Joker, which means the pot may swell to a record $2,000 by our next meeting. Wedding Anniversaries, Club Anniversaries and Birthdays were postponed till next week. Guess at this rate we may just postpone them all until Stewart takes over in a few weeks. Andy introduced our guest speaker, Gavin Farnam who is the Senior General Manager of Westfield Valley Fair who gave the membership and guest a very interesting insight into the retail world of mall ownership. Thank you Gavin for coming today and thank you Andy for hosting.
This week we will have Dr. Arlyne Diamond and her topic will be Creativity in the Workplace.
