A Look Back at January 19th, 2012
In an unimaginable game with the San Francisco 49ers (of Santa Clara) and the New Orleans Saints, and a lead change occurred four times in the final four minutes! Making the impossible…possible, the 49ers prevailed in what was truly “a game for the ages.”
In the words of football legend, Vince Lombardi, “We would accomplish many more things if we did not think of them as impossible.” In the game of life, Rotarians make the impossible, possible everyday for those less privileged all over the world.
Roy Truitt has been a Santa Clara Rotarian for 7 ½ years and has been responsible for providing our club with a venue with a wonderful setting, great meals and professional service. Roy greeted and acknowledged our club in “stupendous” fashion!
World traveler, Rod, led the Pledge. Roy shared with us a beautiful letter written by Reverend Billy Graham who has had audiences with every President since Harry Truman and ended the letter with a thankful prayer. Thank you, Roy.
Gary Citti made an announcement about the next National Immunization Day, which will take place in India beginning February 14 and returning on the 23rd. At the Presidents mid-year meeting this past weekend, it was reported that there has not been a single case of Polio in the last year in India. If the same result occurs over a three year span, then India will be declared “Polio-Free!”
A very spirited, Andy stood in for traveling, President-Elect Stewart to discuss the Valentine dinner, which will occur on Saturday, February 18 at the Capitol Club. This is certainly a wonderful evening for us to look forward to!
Miles made an announcement about the Citti Family Golf Invitational. Along with the thousands of dollars the Citti Family raises for scholarships, an additional $1,000 was designated for the Santa Clara Rotary Foundation in the name of RYLA. Thank you, Citti Family for your continued generosity!
Joe, Frank and Gerry gave an enthusiastic and fabulous power-point presentation about the First Annual, “Silicon Valley Barbeque Championships,” which will take place on Saturday, June 30 in the parking lot of Mervyns Shopping Center at Scott and El Camino Real. Competitors from all over California and beyond will set their sights on Santa Clara to come and compete against some of the best BBQ in the country! Secretary Mike indicated that this is an “all hands on deck” project, which has the approval of our board and the backing of our membership! Details to follow about this very exciting project!
Recognized for his birthday was Bruce (where-are-you) Nicholson on January 21.

Somewhere out there, Michael “Treasurer-Elect” Beck and his lovely bride Janelle celebrated their 9th Anniversary on January 19.
The third time in the draw was the charm but Gary still came up a loser in the Jokers Wild!
