A Look Back at January 12, 2012

We Care Chairperson, Tressa Williams recognizes, how to greet our members and guest of our club… with fire and gusto!

Tressa owns her own State Farm Insurance office in Santa Clara.  She recently was accepted into the Leadership Santa Clara 2012 Program and because of this she will be missing quite a few Thursday meetings, however Tressa was gracious enough to donate $50 to our Club Foundation.

President-Elect-Elect, Lou Ann, led us in the Pledge.  Tressa gave us words of wisdom from the late Dr. King in honor of his birthday and his memory!  Nice job!

Stewart and Leslie are hosting the Valentine Dinner at the Capitol Club on February 18.  The Capitol Club provides a great venue with a “Romantic Atmosphere” and the evening promises to be a great event!

Joe, Frank, and Gerry will be making a presentation to our Board on January 18 in regards to the Silicon Valley BBQ Cook-Off!  The Club will also have a presentation made at our next meeting.  This project has the potential for long-term, high visibility and substantial fundraising possibilities!!!

Steve V. announced that the Santa Clara Chamber of Commerce & Convention-Visitors Bureau are presenting “Focus on Santa Clara – Outlook 2012.  A State of the City update by Mayor Mathews will be followed by a 49ers Stadium Financial Update by Paraag Marathe, COO of the SF 49ers.  The event is Thursday, January 26, from 5-6:30 at the Convention Center.  See Steve or call 244-8244 for more details.

Captain Mike Sellars has just been promoted to Assistant Police Chief and with this news Mike was gracious enough to donate $50 to our Club Foundation in the name of Steps for Success!

John Elwood, Beverly Jackson and Henry Buffalow presented us with Rebuilding Together.  Rebuilding Together Silicon Valley is a non-profit organization that performs free home accessibility and safety repairs/modifications for older adults and disabled homeowners in Santa Clara County. They also serve other non-profit organizations such as ours, so that they can dedicate their resources to the community rather than to facility repair.  The club feels this may be a project they may want to implement.  John will make a presentation to our Board on Wednesday and a decision to proceed or not will be made at that time.

Recognized for birthdays were Manny Ferguson on the 12^th and what Ted likes to refer to us as “not being a singing club” was serenaded with “Happy Birthday” (January 13) and then fined $25 for having the “Santa Clara Rotary Choir” sing to him.

Dale and Liz celebrated 31 years on January 08, Rod and Pat celebrated 42 years on January 10^!  Congratulations honeymooners!

Recognized for Club Anniversaries was our “Moment with the President Chair,Ted, January 11, 1991 (21 years and 30 years in Rotary).  Walt, on January 07, 1988 (24 years).  CPA extraordinaire, George Dulucchi celebrated 42 years with Santa Clara Rotary.  Thank you gentlemen, for your service to our club and to our community!

Andy introduced our guest speaker and fellow Rotarian, Santa Clara Unified School District, Superintendent Dr. Bobbie Plough.  Did you know, Bobbie’s undergraduate studies, Masters and Ph.D were all from San Diego St. (Aztecs).  Inspiring, motivating and passionate are three adjectives that define what Bobbie brings to the Santa Clara Unified School District and to the Rotary Club of Santa Clara.  Bobbie’s presentation was thoroughly enjoyed by all in attendance and we are fortunate and blessed to have Bobbie as a member.

Henry from Cupertino Rotary was picked in the Jokers Wild, but came up a loser in the draw and the PLOT thickens.
