A Look Back at February 16th 2012
In honor of Valentine’s Day we shared a quote by Henry Van Dyke who said, “Time is too slow for those who wait, too swift for those who fear, too long for those who grieve, too short for those who rejoice, but for those who love, time is eternity.” You can only imagine the comments that followed, especially after clarifying that “marriage is not eternity.”
Our “official greeter” for today was our clubs immediate past president when the current president became a member. George Delucchi just celebrated 42 years of service with Santa Clara Rotary. He has been the administrator of the Santa Clara Rotary Foundation since it’s inception and currently he serves on our board as an Assistant Director. George is a CPA and founding & senior partner with Delucchi Hawn & Company.
George gave us a very enthusiastic welcome to all in attendance and to date his welcome is second to none. His beautiful quotes on friendship gave inspiration to us all. The “very fashionable” (not) Jan Eric led the club in the pledge.
John Rocha and Bill Kelly made their third visits to our club and will now begin the process to join our club!
Ted gave the club an update on the services for Vicki Hong, which will be held on Monday, February 20 at Marianis beginning at noon. An email was sent to the members as follow-up.
In District News, the Area 5 Speech Contest will be held at our club on March 08 and Heath again will be our Host. Down the line the District Speech Contest Finals will be held during the District Cabinet Meeting on April 04.

Stewart announced that 53 of us will be dining and dancing at the Capitol Club this Saturday to celebrate Valentine’s Day.
Sudah has resigned from our club and she thanks all of us for “giving her an opportunity to observe, learn and understand how Rotary functions and truly appreciated the energy and passion of what Rotarians do for their community and the world.” Best wishes Sudah!
Recognized for his Club Anniversary was Pete Bailiff who on February 14 celebrated 27 years with Santa Clara Rotary. We hope to see Pete for a visit in the near future!
On February 03 Lorenzo celebrated his birthday with Norma Elena and on Valentine’s Day Ron celebrated the big 50 with his lovely Jennifer and family!
Walt and his bride Joan celebrated 45 years of marriage in the Panama Canal. Not only were Walt & Joan shipmates on this cruise but have been soul mates in life. Congratulation’s and that will be $50 to our Club Foundation!
Colleen had or guest speaker Dan Schnur pick the winning number and the winners & losers of the draw were Linda & Tom. The pot has grown to over $900. This is a good time to start throwing in $5 to increase your chances of winning!

Andy gave a very “abbreviated” introduction (apparently he thought someone else was going to do this) of our guest speaker, Dan Schnur who is the Department Chair of the Political Science Department at USC and teaches a class in Campaign Strategy at Cal Berkeley. Dan is also writes a column for the New York Times and teaches on online course for the New York Times. It would be helpful to Google Dan Schnur and you will find him on Wikipedia!
Dan is an incredibly gifted and intelligent orator and all those in attendance were treated to a fabulous program! We are hoping to have Dan back at the club after the Presidential Election and the suggestion was made we wait till after Thanksgiving so we can hear more about his family get together over the holiday!!!
This week we will hear from the Honorable Mike Honda from the 15th Congressional District and he will speak on Stem Legislation.
