A Look Back at April 12, 2012

to be inspired by our members and their commitments to making our community and
our world better through a vision based on drive, imagination and creativity.
Mike Moul
sponsored Kelly Beals, three years ago, although Larry does like to take credit
for this. Kelly has been a tireless
volunteer with the planning and implementation of many of our club projects and
always with a sense of enthusiasm and grace.
Kelly is the
Associate Director of Development at Santa Clara University. Her and Will just celebrated their first
wedding anniversary and today she announced they are expecting their first
child! One cannot fine an expectant
mother so in lieu of this, Larry will take credit for her $50 fine!
In honor of our
guest speaker, Kelly gave an inspiring quote about women in sports and those
who paved the way for them! Fire Chief
Bill led the pledge.
The president
recognized John E., for his confusion a couple weeks back on who was his mentor
(Gary) and who was his sponsor (Andy).
For his confusion John was welcomed into the $50 Club.
The president also
recognized Andy for bringing this to his attention and was then chided for
forgetting his birthday, club and wedding anniversary and was forgiving, but
was not going to allow for not being given credit for being Johns sponsor. In turn, Andy was recognized for all the
forgetful recognitions and became a $50 Sustainer in our Club Foundation. Thank you, gentlemen!
The Rotary Club of
Santa Clara proudly welcomed John Rocha (Mortuary Services) into the club. Mike M. presented John with his (Jan Nordmo)
Red Badge, Certificate and Rotary Pin.
Welcome aboard John!
Interactors from
Wilcox High School made a presentation on the Area 11 Charity Dinner they will
be having. The Interactors from Mitty
High School recognized Margaret for all she does for them and conveyed they
made $5,000 from the event they held at the San Jose Rep.
Did you know that
Margaret was the State Women’s Open Champion in Racquetball? Well she just most recently, relinquished her
crown but for this impressive achievement Margaret was welcomed into the $50
Club. I hear Stan is putting a challenge
out to Margaret!
Miles delivered
the club an impressive PowerPoint Presentation on the Fun Run. Miles and his committee have diligently put
together a fabulous event for our members and our community and all are
encouraged to attend the Fun Run on May 6th!
Time restraints
prevented us from acknowledging birthdays and anniversaries (surprise) however
2 members were recognized because theirs fell on the 12th! Congratulations to Joe and Linda Sweeney for
32 (not 22) years of marriage and Happy Birthday to Assistant Chief, Mike!
Andy was the
winner of the drawing but came up without the Joker and the pot surges to
nearly $1,200!
Today we heard
from Marlene Bjornsrud, CEO of Bay Area Women’s Sports Initiative (BAWSI) and
she gave an inspiring talk on woman sports and athletes giving back once they
have completed their playing careers!

This week we are going
to hear from Holly Gillingham, wife of retired sheriff, Chuck Gillingham. Holly will be speaking on the California
Parole Board.
