Thank you Anton for hosting the debunking and fortunately there will be no acting awards forth coming. Thank you for your leadership and friendship and for mentoring me and making the transition from President-Elect to President a fairly smooth process for me!

Thank you Kenny for being so gracious with your kind words and your encouragement as you have all year long. Ken is such a great friend to all of us and we are fortunate to have him as a member.   Great job as Master of Ceremonies this past weekend you’re such a natural!  No wonder you were the star in “Bells Are Ringing!”

Ted, thank you for your kind and unkind words and when we find the soft side of you we will alert the press.  All kidding aside thank you for your support of the Moment with the Past President, oh that’s right that didn’t work out, especially when Bob Buchser turned the moment into a Club Program!  The 9/11 Program and Past Presidents were both outstanding programs this year and I sincerely thank you for your support!

John Bertolotti hosted our Bocce Event, Vintage Car Program and of course the President for the Day, which was so well attended.  Even Anna, pointed out that John’s attendance had greater numbers than mine!  For his efforts, John was awarded a Past Presidents For a Day polo shirt.  Thank you for all you do John you’re a tremendous asset to our club.

Thank you Terry Carmody for asking me the proverbial question eighteen years ago, “What are you doing for lunch on Thursday?” Terry has been so much more than just a great friend to me and I will always be most grateful to him for introducing me to you and this very special organization.  It’s was an honor to be asked to join and even a greater one to be accepted.

Thank you Bill for taking over as our Sergeant at Arms for Terry and thank you Colleen for taking over for Bill.  I know this has allowed Colleen an opportunity as well to get to know all of our members.  Thank you Terry & Betty for keeping up the attendance!

Thank you so much to our Board of Directors and they were Past President-Anton, President Elect-Stewart, Treasurer Miles, Secretary Dr. Michael, and our four Directors; Denise, Shawn, Sandy and Tony.  Thank you Sandy for your generosity and be well!

The President also reserves the right to appoint an Assistant Director and I was very grateful for the help and direction of George Delucchi.  I was delighted and really enjoyed having him serve on our board.

Thank you Bob Ricks for doing a great job as our Membership Director and to Mike Moul for filling in when needed.  We never have a second chance to make a first impression and I can think of no one better than having these two meet our newest prospective members.  Bob always let us know we can all sleep better at night knowing the Jan Eric Nordmo Red Badge Legend is in tact.

Michael Beck thank you for your leadership on Steps for Success and you are going to make a great Treasurer for our club!

Steve Rainbolt and Miles did an incredible job with ELC as did our support team.  You truly have changed the lives of these High School Juniors in a very positive way and be proud of this!

Thank you Tressa and Gary for implementing our Mentoring Program of which I’m very proud.  A second thank you to Gary for putting together a very memorable 75th Anniversary Party.

Thank you Laurel for posting A Look Back each week and hosting our Day at Mission College and giving us an up close look at the Culinary School and the State of Mission College.

Our clubs first New Generations Chair, Margaret, you’re such a positive influence and inspiration to our high school youth and Interactors!

Diamond, Michael Beach, you did a great job as our Santa Clara Rotary Foundation President and of course Nick Streit and George Delucchi’s efforts often go unnoticed in administering our Foundation and they have for about 20 years.  They handle the accounting and tax returns as well and we are grateful and fortunate as a club to have them.

Heath, fantastic job putting together our John Johns list and for hosting two Speech Contests and certainly putting your own mark on them.  Bob Buchser is proud of you as we all are!

Jan was not present because he was out traveling the country in his (brand new and very expensive-Stewart) motor home with his family. Jan has been a great friend, a mentor and representative of our club in being the Area 5 Assistant Governor.  With his support, Jan helped me through Pre-Pets, Pets and guided me throughout the year and I will always be grateful for all he has done for me.  Jan will also be hosting Arley’s Roast and Toast on July 12 and I hope you can all make this special evening.

Thank you Mohammed who represented our club at many of the Future Vision Meetings.  This will certainly help Lorenzo in the upcoming year as we renew our commitment to International project under Stewart’s leadership.

Our Club Photographer, Lidia Blair captured the moments of our club throughout the year and always with a warm smile.

Lou Ann I am so proud to have the honor of being Club President as was our nominating committee so proud when we nominated and you accepted as our first woman to be President! Being the lady you are with such class and grace we know you are going to do an outstanding job for our club!

To all our Committee Chairs and Committee Members our club would not be where it is without your commitment to Service Above Self.  From Soccer, our 75th, Art & Wine, Steps for Success, Christmas for Kids (which was awarded the Best Project in the District this year so a special thank you goes to Linda, Margaret and Bill), ELC, Fun Run and of course the First Annual Silicon Valley BBQ Championships.

It’s truly remarkable what we accomplish here at Santa Clara Rotary and you should all be so proud to be a Santa Clara Rotarian.  As I have said many times throughout the year, “never underestimate the value of your goodness!”

Let us never lose sight of what we do on an International level through The Rotary Foundation for it’s truly the lifeline of Rotary.

In my nearly 18 years in Rotary I do not recall a class of Red Badgers who were so dynamic; from the backgrounds they came from to the energy, enthusiasm and sense of humanity that they brought with them and what they have shared with this club.

The culmination of the efforts of Gerry, Frank & Joe and their Silicon Valley BBQ Championships Committee and the number of Rotarians along with their spouses, children and friends who turned out this past weekend again tells us the future of Santa Clara Rotary looks so promising and it’s been an honor for me to serve as your president in your first year or so with our club!

Congratulation's to Santa Clara Rotarian, Kelly Beals, winner of the 2011-2012 District 5170 Neal J. Hoffman Award! The Neal J. Hoffman Award is named for the late 1998-99 District Governor and past Santa Clara Rotary member and President, awarded to the most outstanding younger Rotarian in the district who has shown exemplary leadership skills in their club and/or the district! Congratulation's and well-deserved Kelly and we look forward to welcoming your and Will’s baby boy!

Congratulations to Miles Barber, Bill Carver, Andy Ratermann and Joe Sweeney who were awarded the 2011-2012 Santa Clara Rotary, Distinguished Service Award. These recipients were acknowledged for distinguishing themselves in their dedication & commitment to our club, to our community and to our world and to the ideals of Rotary! Congratulations and thank you for your commitment to Service Above Self!

Stewart has been a great friend and I hope I have been able to help him in some way in preparing for his year.  It’s been a thrill for me knowing Stewart would follow my year and I wish him every bit of success and support in the upcoming year!  God Speed Stewart and enjoy the ride or as Bob Ricks puts it, “The Swim!”

On a final note, the end of my term was an emotional and bittersweet experience for me.   It was very special to have my family members present as well as a couple friends.

The legacy of the 2011-2012 Santa Clara Rotary year is we simply gave it all we had.  I must honestly say, because of who you are and what we represent as a Rotary Club was always my greatest motivation to serve with respect and dignity. I had the honor of representing “The Greatest Rotary Club in the World” during an historic 75th year!  God Bless the Rotary Club of Santa Clara and it was truly my privilege to be your President.

All the best,

Daniel Holder

Rotary Club of Santa Clara
