Attendance today was 20 of 25, or 80 percent.

Guests today included: 1) Dan Burns, Preston Hollow Rotary, 2) Scott Grigg, McKinney Sunrise Rotary, and 3) Piper McCraw, District Judge

Our speaker today was Dan Burns.  Dan spoke to the club today regarding Autism awareness.  Dan provided his story of raising an autistic child into adulthood.  He spoke primarily regarding the lack of support and resources available within the community to assist parents with raising an autistic child.  Although resources are available, the wait is lengthy and there are many aspects of autism that are not understood within the medical community.  A focus for Dan is the plight of adults with autism.  The three main concerns for such adults are jobs, housing, and community interactions.  We are unprepared as a society for the situation where autistic children outlive their parents.  Dan is engaged with a non-profit named Appleseed Charities, for those wishing to learn more, or lend assistance.  In addition, Dan's Rotary Club (Preston Hollow) is developing an International grant application to aid with autism efforts.

The motto of Rotary is "Service Above Self." We all know from experience how much more we can accomplish together than alone. Along those lines, it is imperative that we actively promote our club and invite friends and coworkers to join.
