I hope you are doing well and your Rotary year is off to a great start. We have a lot of information to share about our Rotary Foundation today. I apologize that this letter is a little long, but we just had so much to talk about. I am including all Foundation chairs, international service chairs, presidents and assistant governors in this email. Please pass it along to anyone else you think should see it.
FOUNDATION DINNER – EDMONTON
Please join us on November 6, 2019 at Woodvale Community Centre for an evening with Jennifer Jones (Member of the Rotary Foundation Board of Trustees, Co-Chair End Polio Now - Making History Campaign, RI Vice President 2016-17). The evening is designed as a learning event and we have kept the price low to make it accessible to all Rotarians. The evening will be all about learning more about The Rotary Foundation and how we can all be involved. We will have a knowledgeable host at each table to help answer your questions. For more information and to register please visit Rotary Foundation Dinner or you can also contact Dawn Riley (RC Vermilion) at bestmamaever71@gmail.com , Chinwe Okelu (RC Edmonton Southeast) at cokelu@telus.net or you can always reach out to me as well. Please help us by promoting attendance in your club.
GOVERNMENT OF CANADA FUNDING
Attached is a letter with more details on the Government of Canada that is available for Canadian Rotary clubs doing Global Grant projects. If your project qualifies for a global grant it will probably also qualify for Government of Canada money which will allow you to do more with the money you are investing. We are concerned the available funds may disappear at the end of this Rotary year and would like to take advantage of this opportunity. There are links in the letter for more information.
I NEED YOUR PICTURES
I am trying to put together a photo database of our District Grant and Global Grant projects and I need your help. Please send me pictures of your projects from the current or past several years. We want to use these pictures to inspire others to get involved in The Rotary Foundation. Any pictures that show how your club has connected with either the local or international community would be especially appreciated. Our plan is to use the pictures in club presentations. Please note if the pictures can be used on social media, if there is no note we will not use the picture or contact you before posting. Please email the pictures to timschilds@telus.net
WORLD POLIO DAY
Thursday October 24, 2019 is World Polio Day. I would like to thank all of those clubs that are hosting an event in conjunction with our efforts to Eradicate Polio. If you have not already done so please register your event here World Polio Day . Special thank you to Donna Greenway (Fort St John) and her team for their work in setting up “Pints for Polio”. District Governor Tracey has indicated she would like to visit some in the Edmonton area so please reach out and invite her to come along as well. We have had a setback in the current year as the number of wild polio virus cases has risen in Pakistan for the first time in 30 years. This was the result of many factors we could not control. Now more than ever we have to push hard to end this dreaded disease.
2019-20 DISTRICT GRANTS
I know you are all waiting anxiously for word on your district grant money. I can confirm that we have now received our grant money from the Rotary Foundation and as the exchange rate was more favourable than anticipated the allocations will all be as originally promised or in some cases a bit more. Those cheques should be sent out to you in the next couple weeks. Please check to make sure you have filed all required reports for district grants from prior years. Our team is in the process of reviewing them all now.
CLUB PRESENTATIONS
We have had several requests for club presentations and have been working on getting them all set up. I know I may have lost a few of the dates/requests so if you have not heard back from me, please reach out and we will try to accommodate. Rotary also has a lot of great videos available to present to your club. I would suggest you could show one of the Areas of Focus videos each week for six weeks for your club members to learn more about the foundation. Rotary also has a number of great videos you can find here Rotary Videos. Please feel free to reach out to our team if you need any help.
OUR TEAM
The easiest way to connect with us is via the district website: Our Team. Some updates are still in progress and will hopefully be reflected soon. We are here to help you succeed so please do not hesitate to reach out for any help or information you may need. Our team includes you! We are the support system but you are our feet on the ground in your club. Please help us by making sure your Foundation chair contact information is up to date in clubrunner. (There are still 8 clubs without a Foundation chair)
FOUNDATION GOALS
We are now four months in to the new Rotary year and it is a good time to review your Foundation goals. I note there are still several clubs with no goals and there are some that have set goals well below their average giving for past few years. Please have a look and adjust as required.
Thank you for reading all the way to the bottom of this email. I realize it was long, there was just so much to say! Thank you for your support of our Rotary Foundation and please remember the District Foundation committee is in place to support you and your club as we connect the world.
Yours in Rotary Service
Tim
